Very little activity, actually, when you look at the dates.

I have two TubeOhm synths and the complete bundle from SuperWave, neither Andre nor Chris seem to be programmers. They always use other people's modules. In that sense they are indeed typical of the SE world. Without Chris Kerry's modules the SE world would long have collapsed, anyway.
I bet when I look into the module folders of the synths from the developers you have listed, they are almost all full of standard and third-party modules, not of modules programmed by themselves.

I would rather wait for a Waves promotion and get Element for 100 bucks than buy any SE synth for 80...
I wouldn't say quality difference, but rather feature difference ;)

SE synths can sound as good as the best, but compatability issues with 64 bit DAWs, makes me more wary paying as much for them as for 64 bit plugs.
I use everyday a modular synth which is absolutely AWESOME and it costs only €49! And it is not SynthEdit at all! It works perfectly in Windows 32-bit and native 64-bit (no need of any bridge). And with multi-core support. It is Mutools MUX.
http://www.mutools.com/mux-downloads.html

You build yourself your synths like a SynthEdit user but it is for yourself only (there is no compilation, it is for oneself only).
In it you have hundreds of modules for subtractive synthesis, FM synthesis, additive synthesis, physical modeling synthesis, granular synthesis, sample synthesis, wavetable synthesis, waveshaping, supersaw, drums, creation of step-sequencers and arpeggiators, all the filters (BP, HP, Band pass, notch...) with adjustable slopes, formants, ring-modulation, multi-segment envelope generators, all the traditional effects...

And our KVR forum (where I'm present as user of course, I'm not more than a user) is very active! And some users of the forum create new modules and share them freely!

You, Numanoid, who has a weak computer and who is not very rich... it could be for less than €50 your workhorse (for years! because it's always being in development of enhancements) which makes you create all your own synths with all the synthesis you want. And it is quite easy to use. Simply connect modules each others in the area to build your architecture (very simple or very complex, and there are patterns and examples which are very useful to begin) and tweak your parameters, create your GUI, etc.

See:
http://www.mutools.com/mux-product.html

And the Youtube channel (see simply the demos and tutos for MUX in first):

All that for €49.

Don't make a mistake in the shop page if you visit it. It is "MUX 5 Vst User Key" the one which interests you (hmm maybe my practice of english language fails here).

And there is no limitation in your rights. You can use it on as many computers as you want. The protection is simply a serial number (there's no challenge/response).The installation consists simply to unzip the file wherever you want in your computer. Etc.

And very soon (in few weeks) the version 6 will be available.

Very little activity, yes. But still there. And it's at the time he was developing his last synth in date: Phasewave (which still has the usual limitations of all the Synthedit products). There is anything new in his shop as well as in his SynthEdit profile. The same.

And all the limitations of his synths are the same from the old first to the last one: the traditional limitations imposed by SynthEdit. Even the last one.

Just for clarity, and according to memory...

False.

True, and he will probably be the first to port a functional 64bit synth in future.

Don't know.

Depends on who you talk to.

False, but Andre is my favourite SE developer. Knowledge can outweigh many things.

False.

Can't remember, but wouldn't be suprised if there was some custom c++ going on.

I've just checked out to see who is still the developers of the modules in the last TubeOhm synths. Still today it is always Chris Kerry... from SynthEdit.
http://www.chriskerry.f9.co.uk/

In my purchased synths I have :
  • Alpha Ray : Chris Kerry
  • Bruno : Chris Kerry
  • Fluid : Chris Kerry
  • Pure D16 24BR : Chris Kerry
  • Vintage : Chris Kerry

Sorry for all your "false"... but I have brought the proofs. You should read a bit better. Just except TubeOhm, I said all... it's not all, for this one you're right. That's all.

Mostly on Mac these days so I don't fir ... K. Modular- good little bits for making mayhem, to work best you need to load them into a modular environment like AudioMulch
- Benedict Roff-Marsh made several Synth Studio Packs, each was about $7 for an assortment of 5-10 synths/effects in each. They generally did one or two things well and had a lot of character. He made some great soundfont players and sample manglers, and I really liked the Glaz FM and Cluster additive synths.
- Elogoxa made some very groovy devices like the Sun Ra ambience generator. It was one of the first plugins I ever downloaded and I was amazed that someone would create such a device and give it away for free.
- Benoit Serrano - he's made several FM/PM synths like Cosmos that are very simple but very effective, easy to make distinctive sounds with
- Tweakbench - mysterious little synths like the the Field ambience generator that have a lot going on for such little devices. Fun and creative!

I saw today that HG Fortune dropped a couple of his synths from the store and backlist.

Strange he dropped a couple of good and useful products from his store and line.

Dropped Serenity, Dreammachine 3 and another.

Note his comments.

Thoughts?

I took an hour to try most of the synths recommended here. None of them changed my opinions on Synthedit. There are so many good Reaktor Synths. But even the best Synthedit synths are mostly shovelware to pad out a users VST folder.

And that my HG Fortune synths are still some of the most fun to play with?
