Hello, I'm new to KVR and fairly new to the synth VST world. I have quite a few superb VST synths with awesome pre-sets built conveniently into the GUI. But I know many of you veterans know how to use patches and pre-sets banks when there is no pre-set module built into the GUI. I would love your guidance on how to make use of those patches and pre-sets banks, when there is no pre-sets module on the GUI itself.

thanks!

I suppose it depends which software you're using (on how to load/save presets) but you'll want to use .fxp for individual presets and .fxb for banks of presets.
WHERE the option to load these .fxp/.fxb files is will depend entirely on whatever tool you're using. .. So that would be good to know.

I use LMMS as my VST host. My OS is Windows XP professional.

Okay! I use LMMS as well ... so in VeSTige, down where you can switch presets, there's two little icons to save and load presets. With load you can load either individual presets (.fxp) or whole banks (.fxb) .. but you can only save .fxp it seems (it gives the option to save .fxb, but I've found it to be buggy. YMMV)

In the "old days" when I checked every free vsti made with Synthedit, I saw several synth without own preset handler. Nowadays I prefer synth that has a "preset database", like FM8, Zebra...
Considering free synths, the browser of Synth1 was improved. In the beginning it included 01 - 09 soundbanks, each with 128 presets in them, but after version v1.08, the browser could display 100 soundbanks. However that is far from "database" .... So how can you find a preset among 5000 another preset? (rhetorical question)

Maybe it's time to check Big Tick Zen stuff, that is a preset handler vst...

IN ableton Live I have a mode different than its normal preset saving function. I can save it with a different GUI function mode that is directly on the VST.
Ableton Live 8 Suite 64 Bit, Sylenth1 64 Bit,Rapture, Zeta+2,Synthmaster, Dimenison Pro, Mo' Phatt. and Waves plugs.
