Setting up my system for the first time, so appreciate all help and advice. I have a very basic question.

Using Komplete audio 6 as my audio interface. I have a pair of Samson Media-one 3A speakers.

I'm getting slightly confused by the terminology used in the setup and use of the Komplete 6 (when it talks about monitor i/o selection etc)

Are the outputs used :

i) solely for listening to the inputs to the Komplete 6 (processed or unprocessed), or

ii) can I use the Komplete 6 as my only sound I/O device in my system ie have my main speakers coming out of the Komplete 6 for all sound playback from my DAW etc

So, do I need a sound card in my PC to output to my main speakers or can the Komplete 6 do this job as well as being used as an input device ?

Yes. Basically, like your internal computer soundcard, the KA6 is an audio interface with a certain number of inputs and outputs.

Just select the KA6 as main audio interface in the audio preferences of your operating system and/or your software (DAW, etc ..) and you're good to go.

I guess what's confusing you is the direct monitoring section on the front of the KA6, which allows you to directly monitor or listen to the audio from the front-inputs 1+2 on the KA6 itself (without going through additional software like a DAW).

You can find more infos about this feature in NI's Knowledge Base:

Thanks for the response solger, I very much appreciate it. I can now go ahead and source the correct cables I need for connecting my speakers to the AI.
