A singer once accused me of wanting to cover a Cindy Sanyu song only because of her boobs. That's totally unfair, though. Clearly, Cindy also has great legs.

so I watched some of the first video even though typically I stay out of these threads (I didn't watch the others simply because I am not intersted enough to spend my free time doing so). That's Tom Brady's wife right?

before I continue let me state that this is only my opinion and not meant to suggest that anyone else should agree, it's just how I am

I wasn't a big fan of Blondie, but really only because I was a rocker, at that foolish age where peer pressure affected me and so to fit in disco sucked...I was also in the Army at that time and sadly the Army was very polarized on many things...sometimes giving in to peer pressure was self preservation. But again, really I was the age of a man, still a child doing a serious job. Meanwhile I was married to my son's mother and she did really like Blondie and I did like the song heart of glass (I will say I thought Deborah Harry was awesome in that TV show Wiseguys that didn't last too long)

Okay with that said I watched about half of this and it did very little for me and I did not find it interesting enough to watch the whole thing, I wont say it was terrible but it's not something I would buy or likely watch again on my own accord. I think if I was married to someone with Tom Brady's money and her money too I might do a lot of the same thing just for fun...I mean why not if you can like she can (or like any one of us can because we have the means now thanx to a more even playing field )

What I did dislike is something that is a bit of a pet peeve of mine, offensive isn't exactly the right but I do not care for the pandering of sexism. Okay we get it, you're a super model, your husband is the golden boy (not my words but words I hear around here in the media too often). But really, I do not listen to music because what some people call a beautiful woman is singing, never have, never will. But to put her in a bikini in front of a mountain of speakers is a bit shallow and a blatant attempt at something I do not care for (ftr when I see ads of so-called hot women holding a guitar I dont like it). I dont think her voice was horrible, I dont think the music was terrible, the mix was better than I can do (mixing has always been a weak spot for me)...but I dont buy into that kind of thing and frankly it tires me. It wont go away so I dont let it bother me, I just skip right passed it.

I have the most beautiful woman, she's been with me for 17 years and that's one of the things that make her so beautiful...she can put up with me which makes her a treasure on i's own...but she is so much more. I think it would be a bit of a slap in Denise's face if I watched this over and over with her knowing it's not my thing, there might be only one other conclusion as to why I ws watching it she might come to and that might offend the woman I love very much...I wont do that. (ftr I was never a fan of videos anyhow because of this, I would rather hear hot guitar playing than look at hot girls...I have a better chance of becoming a hot guitar player than even getting a smile from any of these so-called how women )

Why not rely on your voice Giselle? To me (and remember my disclaimer in bold) this seems to be her feeding her ego and Tom Brady's ego and tbh there is nothing wrong with that. Just like there is nothing wrong asparagus, but I dont care for either. So I did not care for this and I'll move on (maybe she'll go Pat Boone and do a heavy metal album ).

As for the subject of covers, I enjoy some covers and wish others were never made. I have done my share of covers but I dont share them often. One thing I like about having a studio that I selfishly keep to myself is I can do what I want, when I want...covers, cheap jams, silly fsu things, parodies or whatever. Back in my very short lived band days yes we did a lot of covers and either people loved them or hated them because I was all about my interpretation of the song..."you didn't play that right" was common and grew kind of old.

I mean imho that's what arts are about or at least part of what they are about right? For the patron of the arts it's about interpretation (which sometimes get's mixed up with perception but I believe interpretation is the step after perception), for the artist it's about the expression and interpretation (not completely but I hope folks see my point) ...all of which is quite subjective. If people didn't like my covers, oh well...really what was far more important was for me was what I learned from doing those covers and what I learned from both those who liked my covers or disliked my covers. Again there are covers that I consider quite well done (but typically those are not just like the original) and some I dont care for and wont bother listening to again.

In this case I thought it was a bit generic and simply not something that caught my attention...Joe Cocker or Pavarotti doing a cover of this song might catch my attention but this one I didn't like.

I think Deborah Harry was playing (to be perfectly clear, with some irony) with the very thing Giselle is doing here with no sense of irony.

There is a sort of surface vapidity in the delivery of the song originally, a certain nonchalance which emphasizes the words. "Heart of Glass". I think this is artistically aware, whether you like the result or gravitate to the style of music. I think Giselle here IS vapid.

And I think a woman featuring her own sexuality (even as this is practically anti-erotic to me) is not sexism.
It seems to be the one thing Giselle has to sell, so I can't blame her.

To me, Blondie was punk = but ironic punk. NY hipsters that were too cool for school. Heart Of Glass was their answer to all the disco swirling around. And the synthwork was groundbreaking (in those days) Just like Rapture was their answer to rap, which was just getting started. Gisele is 33 years old, and surprisingly from Brazil - even though she sings like a drunk member of ABBA after a root canal.

So, maybe she paid Sinclar a boatload of money. Maybe this was all an H & M ad exec 's doing. I consider my self a producer, and if I was someone of Sinclar's caliber and I heard those vocals (even autotuned), I'd have to either get another singer, or divorce myself from the project.
Thank God she didn't cover 'One Way Or Another.'

Yes it's all about money, but who is investing in this and expecting to return a profit?

Obviously chart success is not guaranteed for any specific song/performance, but perhaps there is a royalty returned from putting it on heavy rotation in bars, supermarkets, and other places that use a piped music system that the venue doesn't control directly (there by guaranteeing a certain number of plays)?

Or does it drive sales of the original, since people might go check it out, realise it's better and hit the buy button?

Or is it used to hide profits of some parent corporation because it's registered as a loss, reducing tax for whoever bank rolled it?

Or something else? It's mystifying ...

Honestly, there's way too much over-thinking going on here.

It's purely an easy remix for the Brazil World Cup by a Brazilian model and reasonable producer.

TBH I never thought of it that way, but it's an interesting point and really one I couldn't argue. I have never been a radio type person and TBH I think my exposure to punk was decades late. Back then I was in Texas and the one radio station that came in good was KXIS (I think that's right) in Killeen...in fact I lived about 200' from their antennas...when I could I would listen to (again I think I have this right, it's been over 30 years) KLBJ in Austin...which for the record remains as the radio station I have liked the best.

It was a very unique girl (and a very free soul) that really introduced me to punk in the early 80's when I was back in Boston

Well, I stuck with around 20 seconds of this thing. Hink said 'pandering sexism', and on second thought the word 'sexism' seems to stand for 'sex'. Sexism has a definite meaning, and I don't think if this woman chose to be this way that is sexism, unless it's sexism against the male gender as though this is what they must respond to automatically. This presentation of 'sexy' is kind of, I'm struggling for the best word, but 'silly' will have to do, if you ask me.
