So, it's been about a week and I haven't seen a thread on this. Any users yet? How is it? Seems like they nailed the sound, but is it stable?

http://www.alyjameslab.com/alyjameslabvlinn.html

I see this is a SynthEdit creation, but there's a 64bit Win version, so that's good news for me. Are there any downsides to using SE plugins at this point other than no Mac support? For the low asking price, should I even care that it's SE? I guess my big fear is, will this plugin still work in 5 years?

Post

Sadly, according to the website: 64bit in 2015

i dont want to bridge so i don't use 32-bit plugins anymore.

I have bought it and I'm just waiting for it to be delivered. I think he creates personal downloads hence the wait.
I did not know it is a SE creation - I don't care what he made it with as long as it works :)
Just read on Gearslutz some guy spent 6000(I presume dollars) on a real LM-1 and now almost regrets it because this software is now available.

Oh, I was under the impression 64bit was already out. Disappointing. I might pass on this one then. I'd happily pay double if this weren't an SE plugin and had a 64bit Win version and make support. Maybe even triple.

i have it, and its great. i love 80s sound and its perfect to recreat the old prince sound.
32 bit or 64 bit, this ist only a competition in numbers.
with a drummaschine plugin like this, it not important. no big samples needed
it works perfekt, no need for 64 bits

i dunno how the dev can write 64-bit in 2015 when he create his products with SE?!..
..and yeah, its great if you are happy with 32-bit SE but here are many which gone strictly 64-bit (me as well) for good reasons.

32-bit plugins a problem?

Here is hoping that a 64-bit version comes soon because you are missing a very fine software emulation by a very talented developer.

As BrockHardcastle said in his review: "The VLINN by Aly James Lab is without a doubt the best VST drum machine out there for drum machine sounds. Period"

If you haven't watched the videos, you should. Funk is fun!

I have all the Aly James stuff, it's great. He really gets the details of what he's emulating down, even to the point that we can do circuit-bending by changing some of the constants of the simulation. I haven't learned how to change EPROMs yet, but the default kit is such a classic I haven't felt the need to.

The snappy snare together with that clap is about the funkiest sound ever invented! Compared it to samples but Vlinn sounds way more like the genuine thing.

Vlinn isn't a sampled Linndrum, it's actually a virtual Linndum that reads the original EPROM sounds. For the moment, there's a little problem with the EPROM loading function and Windows XP. However, while he's rewriting the plug to fix the problem, Aly James made a version that works on XP but that doesn't have the ability to load other EPROM sounds.

Looks good so far. I'll get more interested when there's and AU version.

I've paid money, though I haven't seen it yet. I did get his FMDRIVE, and it was snazzy. SPSG sounds beautiful, though... :)

I only just got it, and so far AMAZING!

I have only used it for an hour or so in 64bit Reaper and there have been no problems. You can load the DMX ROMS from:

I think it's time to re-create these Tenebre drums!

(Claudio Simonetti – Roland Jupiter-8, Roland Vocoder Plus, Minimoog, piano, electric piano, Oberheim DMX Digital Drum, Roland TR-808, Roland MC4 Computer)

A lot of the bad vibe bugs of SynthEdit people remember were fixed, and like Variety Of Sound, this plug-in uses custom code.
