My broken backup stereo monitor: Fix it or junk it.

My backup stereo hi-fi system was a reliable backup monitor. I liked it because it had 6 EQ settings, from flat to quite bassy. The speakers are almost 5 inches with two inch tweeters. But one of the channels was cutting out. So I took it apart and soldered a loose input RCA connector on the back. After putting it back together, it would not power up. I checked the one fuse inside and it is good. The power cord is good. I am at a loss for a fix. It seems a done deal. If anyone has any ideas, let me know. Otherwise, in the dumpster it goes. Too bad.

Rather than speand good money on a failed (and possibly elderly) sound system, I would junk it and save for something that will server you well for the next ten years or so - I recently added some KEF X300A actives (http://www.hifigear.co.uk/kef-x300a-digital-hi-fi-speaker-system.html) to my home studio, I would recommend you take a listen to these if you can - very powerful, clean, clear sound quality and great for mixing.

Those are nice,
they are expensive though.
Wouldn't he be better off with monitors?

If you like your hi-fi, you could possibly get it fixed.
Maybe you overheated an electrical component when you soldered it?

If you are happy with your monitoring situation,
you could get active 12"s for the same price as the hi-fi speakers linked,
but this is an expensive exercise.
It will however turn your joint into a little club!
