I'm not sure if this is the right board to post this but I'm noticing that IK Multimedia is placing dlls that I haven't purchase in my VST directory and when I select it, it tells me it's unpurchased and to go to Custom Shop. I didn't ask for this dll to be placed there and I don't want it taking up real estate on my picklists or my drive. How do I disable this. It seems they are recreated every time I go into T-Racks CS!

This is NOT COOL!

T-RackS installs the suite (you can remove them if you'd like, directly) for ease of demoing the plugins and as a solution for offline uses' ability to use the plugins as "singles". This was introduced in a recent T-RackS Custom Shop update, and it similar to the way others also handle it (presumably for some of the same reasons).

I will forward your thoughts on this, and if you have any technical issues with removal or otherwise related to this our support team would be happy to help: http://www.ikmultimedia.com/support

yeh i am not keen on this either, in fact the whole custom shop is a nuisance for me really. I just want to use my bought plugins and if I want more I can go to the website and get them.

Post

FLS does the same. The main reason (me thinks) is the ability to listen to the demo tracks that may use plugins you'd have to buy in case you want to use them yourself.

Really there should be an option to not install any components I don't own.... If I can't use them I don't want to see them. I have enough legit plugins in my list as it is.

Another issue is them appearing in my list when I can't use them in my projects. I *DID* remove them manually but they reappeared when I opened T-Racks. There is way to stop this as far as I can tell. I've been okay with Custom Shop thus far but this is REALLY BAD!

They should remain removed unless you reinstall/update T-RackS or do a "Restore My Gear" as far as I know. Support would be your best contact to sort out that behavior: http://www.ikmultimedia.com/support

Totally agree! I was very annoyed to find all CS plugins installed and it took me a while to determine which were the ones I actually owned.

Post

I don't like it either. But you can remove the ones you don't want.

I wish Amplitube didn't show all the gear you don't own.

Sorry - but now it's definitely the other way around in terms of "criticism".

First, people were all like "funk this, you need to be online in order to get access to all plugins - my rig isn't online". Now IKM says "okay, funk the constant criticism, we extract the whole pack - you download the full 400MB anyway" - and suddenly all users are like "you suck - I don't need all other DLL's! Change that back".

Seriously... can you people make up your mind please?

Intelligently, the system would only install what you actually own. But since you need the C/R mechanism to determine that, which is the old scheme (online mode!), the system can't say "okay - you only have this and that" prior(!!!) to registration. If you don't know what you own, that is one thing if you would be able to access every individual module in AT3 - then it's annoying. But AT3 is a closed system (still!). T-Racks is way more clear on that behalf.

It's only a couple of more clicks to "delete" the DLL's you don't need. So what? Unless you're an installation purist and be like "No sh*t on my HDD that I don't own". Then IKM needs to adapt an installation scheme like Nomad Factory or Waves has: select the modules you have while custom installation. Again, more work. But this should satisfy EVERYONE this time around.

It's the yin/yang thing. For all the things IK does well, there are some issues that have a tendency to bother people.

Some call it whining, some think it's normal, some are tired of it (both sides) but yin/yang.

That was my biggest issue during a re-install. I had a lot more CS effects than I'd remembered every buying, and I came to find that most of them weren't actually "usable".

As I understood the initial purpose of Custom Shop (which I loved), you'd get the .dll when you actually paid for the plug-in. I don't know exactly when they changed the model changed, but I have a pretty good idea why. I'm not terribly upset, but it is confusing when you're trying to find the plug-ins you've actually paid for in a sea of ones you haven't. Even if the unpaid ones could be grayed-out or put at the end of the list or something, I think that would be better. I know the .dlls don't take up that much space on the drive.
