Thanks - not sure if it would work installing those.

Halion sound formats are confusing - I can't even find where the actual presets are stored (just the samples)

Oh well looks like Halion 5 can't open Halion One sounds anyway :(

All that make rather bad points for Halion, I think...

Maintain a compatibility with oneself at least ascending or by an internal conversion is the least thing one can wait from such big company products, doesn't it?

I think the best arguments for physical modelling pianos instead of sampled pianos is here in the website of Pianoteq (at the first third of the page):
https://www.pianoteq.com/pianoteq5

See also the page 9 of the Pianoteq manual. I'm not sure you can find some of these features in a sampled piano...

+1. I love the sound of Emotional Piano.

OK, well thanks to Black Winny for solving this, I think:

http://www.comcom-music.jp/data/halion_ ... _list.html

It's part of the Pro Set for HS1, patch #427 on this list.

I knew I wasn't making it up. ;-)

Yeah, doesn't seem possible to load these into HalionSonic 2 or Halion 5 though (assuming they are in the VST sound collection set which I downloaded but they are all in hsb format and Halion says it can't read them)

Did anyone mention Cinesamples 'Piano in Blue'? It's my absolute favorite virtual piano, and it should be sufficient for the task - Bill Evans played on it... (the original piano they sampled, that is, not the plug-in obviously).

I want to get Art Vist Malmsjo Acoustic Grand, it's the one Charlie Clouser says he uses for all his soundtrack work:

I have the ArtVisat Virtual Grand Piano and am very pleased wit it.
But perhaps the Malmsjo Acoustic Grand may beat it for warmth
and ambiance.

I have to say Native piano VST's for this one, Alicia's Keys was great :)

Thomas_Pynchon wrote:Thanks, I'm in the process of checking some of those out. I should have mentioned that the style of music is classical (contemporary, something suitable for very soft debussy perhaps), and a concert grand sound is what I would prefer. But some of those might work just fine. Currently using galaxy vienna grand, not enough variety at the softest level though. I would like to try the newer American concert D from Synthogy, but seeing if I cant find an alternative before buying it.

Will check those other recommendations out, some look like they should be good.
This one (Grand Piano Pleyel) among the many free pianos (and pianoforte, harpsichords, etc.) offered by Modartt to the users of Pianoteq was used by Debussy. So... could you find more accurate?

For those who would not be still convinced by the awesome quality of Pianoteq 5, here is a new demo uploaded yesterday by one of our french friends on the french Audiofanzine:
