The electric guitars are not too bad. When I'm running through amp-sims, I always use them because they give a nice and real clean attack for the sim to grab and process. Even running through the ST effects can be okay too, but taking it through your favorite amp-sim really brings it to life.
(my go-to electric for this has been the Gretsch)
I still use the dobros for their tone. They sound a touch weak at first (or in some cases, over processed) but I've found all I really need on them is the built in compressor to bring up to something good (Acoustic Guitars 2).
The Symphony Strings 2 and Cinematik are nice. Even the Pianos are decent enough for practice or in context of the mix. I can't quite go so far as saying they're a good solo instrument though.
Now, I've always pretty much hated Accordions, but the World Accordion in the World Instruments I find as one I actually like (it reminds me of the 12 Monkeys soundtrack).
Oh, and the Basses are very solid and amazingly playable.
All of them are good for what they are, so it really depends on your needs and tastes.
I personally find no use for the synth or GM sets. But I have run through them and think someone looking for those, definitely could.
I picked them up in the bundle at eSoundz and even got some of the drum xpansions during one of the group buys at a ridiculous price. Again, good for what they are, and I have 'jammed' to them, but haven't used them for anything else.
TBH though, I ended up jumping on the Infinity Player for Kontakt and have pretty much replaced 98% of what I was using from these libraries. Hopefully, being able to use them in ST3 will put them back in use.

I like Sampletron and the Squids Rare collections that supplement it.

I've gotten a lot of mileage out of Electric Guitar Collection 2 expansion pack and the Piano Collection 2 expansion pack. I turn to them often as my "go-to" electric guitar or piano sounds, when I'm starting to rough-out an arrangement.bill45 wrote:They are on sale for $14.99 I've heard good things about the electric guitar expansion.
Thanks, Bill
The Symphony Strings 2 samples are pretty good, but they're all pitched up (or down) a few cents, for some reason. The world grooves aren't bad, but the individual world instruments aren't that great (they're not bad, but they're not extensively sampled). Drum collections offer quite a bit, but you can't output your drums to individual outputs in SampleTank 2.5, so you have to process the entire "kit" at once. And the Vintage Keys Collection has some oddball stuff in it that you will probably never use.
You can hear the SampleTank Electric Guitar Collection 2 expansion pack (and a bit from Alchemy) all over this short piece:
