bollocks
neither sounds better unless you are an idiot
both have different strengths
if you cannot get a useful sound from a vsti then the fault lies with you not he synth

The only piece of hardware in your studio that can be faulty is the one sitting in the chair.

Oh dear. Someone who thinks that a PC in a custom case with some knobs on is magically 'hardware' and therefor different from a PC, and superior to it.
Hate to burst your bubble, sunshine, but Opensynth and Plugzilla (and Muse Receptor) are all just fancy PC's mate. Nothing more.

So what you're saying is that software can't compete with hardware that no-one can buy new?WaveRiderArts wrote:I made music with a lit of stuff in my life, and nothing beats being surrounded by a Tr-808, 909, one or two TB303, a CR78, analog sequencers and a truckload of analog synths. I had all that for some years, before it became vintage and was cheap.
No VST i have ever heard sound like the originals. I had some of those; so I really can compare. Someone who thinks Rebirth sounds like the real thing or that P53 sounds like a prophet is uninformed in my opinion.
And having the real thing in front of you, turning real analog knobs, for exemple the tuning or decay of the 808 bass drum, or sliders on my Roland SH-1 or SH-2, is unmatched by any experience I had on the computer. Have you ever turned an unstepped filter knob??? All those knobs have infinite resolution guys, not just 127 values.
I'll bet that keeps the dev's awake at night.

I know they are PC! But do you see the difference?whyterabbyt wrote:Plugzilla (and Muse Receptor) are all just fancy PC's mate. Nothing more.
It is specialized hardware! Not a general use PC. (I am not saying that this equipment is any good, but note the intention of the designers...)
An hardware interface made especially for music is better that one made for word processing!
Don`t anyone get that?
And it is not a question of not being able to do anything with VTS and a computer either!
Wouldn`t you be interested in having a custum solution for musicians rather than a general purpose tool? It is funny that the same interface I sit in front for doing compueter graphics should the best ever for music. You people just do not think much I guess you take what is given to you. I am sure windows is the best thing ever for you then.

Yes, I get the fact that the obvious problem is still what's seated in the chair.

This week's song is a trance cover of the Gladiator theme. Finished it last night, but I'm not proud enough of it to give it an airing.
But it made me realise how bloody good Vanguard is and software in general. Then I read another thread or two were a few peeps were blagging "analog sound, right
" ...
Hence this thread.
btw like your tune. Heartfelt
Could be orchestrated ... extended ... the full monty.
Last week's song?Ok, here's my song from last week. Where's yours?

... you are assuming that all of us grew up as playing musicians and therefore have a 'feel' for playig with hardware keyboards and drum machines etc ...
... for many of us that is simply NOT the case ...
... despite various attempts ive always struggled with learning to play instruments 'live' and it wasnt UNTIL i discovered a way to compose and play music via your 'eminently unsuitable' bog-standard computer keyboard and mouse that i was able to express myself properly in sound ...
... for me using a laptop (and admittedly a few choice hardware add-ons ... a shuttlepro and a few knobs) IS a natural way to interface with my virtual gear but stick me in a room with a load of keyboards and rack gear and id be lost
as often round here the bottom line is - just because you think something is right or wrong doesnt make it so for the rest of us

Never had your hands on a knob rob?
I find that hard to believe.
