BTW, this is my preferred system of handling presets.

No proprietary format stunts handled through a convoluted preset manager with features i simply dont need, the plugin should simply allow me to specify a main dir and then give me a dropdown or browser that lists all of that dirs subfolders and the standard FXPs contained within them. This allows me to organize/categorize/whateverize my presets in any way i see fit and banks in the traditional sense wont be even necessary. (Plus you will never run into any bank slot limits either.) Sharing presets with other people is easy too; ZIP up the folder containing the presets, give the archive to your buddy or customer, they extract it into their dir and thats that. Next time they instantiate the plugin the presets will be ready for use.

There are quite a few plugins that handle presets in exactly this way (and others that do it at least close to this way), and personally i have yet to see a better system because for me and my preferred way of doing things its just perfect. Personally i wouldnt mind at all if this was the standard, but of course my preferred way of doing things is not necessarily everyone elses preferred way of doing things, so i couldnt really expect that.

How, exactly would that differ from the LOAD function I have currently? It also gives you simply a file browser window and allows you to load fxb/p and sysex.

I cant answer that because to my shame i have to admit that i havent tried the new version yet.

All i currently have is the SE version, (which i find excellent, BTW), but perhaps i can give the new version a spin at the weekend.

Would you like me to post some feedback or are your plans on how to make it already 'final'?

(Guess i better ask this from now on since a lot of people here tend to get sensitive when you make any suggestions.)

You people deserve what you're going to get.

BlackWinny, that's a logical fallacy called "appeal to authority". (And I'm an authority too.) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argument_from_authority

layzer and Spitfire31... EXACTLY! Thank you.

I'm out! Have fun! I used to believe in this plug-in and if it's ever made to work right I'll give it a big shout-out on our FB, Twitter and website. There's just no helping some people.

Toodles.

Thanks, I am always happy for any feedback. It will help me to make up my mind on how to implement things for the final version.

My preference for plugins is (even if possibly non-standard) the keeper model. I am considering, however, to make this behaviour switch-able in the settings. I have to experiment with this.

What I want in the end is, obviously a plugin which works. Right now, there are still things which clearly do not work, so just bear with me... It is, after all, still in beta phase.

Cheers,
Martin

Can we, please, come back to a serious discussion about the best way to handle things?

Of course, I want to develop a plugin which works. That is the foremost goal.

As for the flavour of how to do the handling of patches, WRITE or not, and so on, there are clearly different preferences. I am always grateful for comments about bugs in my plugin. If something really is not working, let me know. If it is something, which you just don't like, ok. I might take it onboard, but I will also try to take other opinions into consideration, and there are clearly plenty of them out there.

In the meantime, I will cut my time on KVR and spend more time testing and coding...

Cheers,
Martin

Goodbye, Admiral. (He means well...just a little "crusty" with his helpfulness sometimes). :P

Personally, I still "believe in this plug-in" and have been having fun with it for some time in its earlier iterations! If its patch loading is a bit different, more like the hardware it was modeled on, I don't mind (I own the hardware!).

Thanks for further developing this fine program, Martin_l. Yes, I feel I am getting something I don't deserve but I do appreciate it.

'You people'? Who the hell are you? All i can see is some guy with a serious manner deficit so i suggest you spare us the airs and graces and leave that to the people who contribute more important things to this world than a software synthesizer.

OK then.

I will check it out and if i have any feedback i will post it.

PS: I like your attitude. Knowing where you want to go but still listening to feedback, IMO thats the way to do it unless you intend to program for yourself only. Kudos for that.

And for my part I strongly believe in this program. Two years of work as do Martin merit much more than scorn and condescension. It merits respect and gratitude for that big work offered for others. And furthermore I appreciate especially the people who walk outside the beaten paths. If Martin wishes to have a personal way to manage the patches, banks, etc. it is his right. One can advices him, but never treats him (and all the others around) as a noob. Everybody learns throughout all his life, Martin, us, me as everyone. Everybody. But to treat people in a so abject way (until going as far as pretending being able to give lessons to U-He, Korg, Ichiro Toda, and other creators who have such huge popularity compared to his products absolutely unused by the KVR members) as I have seen here is a huge shame.

I'm not a music software creator. But for several years I have tought in a university. And never I would have treated my students as I have seen here.

Goodbye Admiral. Probably that you are right on certain things that you have said, but you told them with such a contempt of Martin and the others (even the greatest companies) that anybody couldn't learn anything correctly by this way.

The creator, here, it is Martin. He requests for help, but he doesn't request to be treated as this. Others (not me, I'm not qualified for that) will better teach him, or give him clues to, some solutions to get ahead in order to drive himself his synth to the nicest way of working. And above all... always in the good mood, because it is only in the good mood that the good things are completed.

Where have I been contemptuous of Martin? I'm the one on the receiving end of all the childish vitriol, here. (And not from Martin, from "experts" like yourself.)

Some people just find the truth insulting. Nothing I can do about that. If I'm hurting anyone's feelings here it is because you're far too fragile and precious.

The sysex in Mac OS. Is it supposed to work already, or is it for later? Because for me, I can't Load any of the .syx files in your Dropbox account, and nothing happens if I drag'n'drop them on the GUI.

I assume there are no .fxb backup banks with the sysex patches anywhere? I'd like to come to grips with actually playing PG8X, but I'm no building-patches-from-scratch person.

So, any help here would be very much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Joachim

Hi Joachim,

Drag&Drop is not implemented (not sure whether I will ever try, as the host always might intercept things...).

You can load sysex banks with the LOAD button. I just tried it on my system (Reaper, OS X 10.7.5) and it worked in both the VST and the AU version.

In older downloads there were a couple of JX10* sysex files. These do not yet work, but the JX8* ones should.

Please let me know how you are getting on.

Cheers,
Martin

PS. I do not yet supply fxb banks, as the format of these files still is subject to changes.

Hi Martin,

Thank you! Turns out I had got hold of the JX10 ones that were dead in the water. The JX8* sysexes Load as expected!

Now I can start playing…

Joachim

My wrong. I should not have uploaded files which are not yet working...
Glad they are working now.
