Noise with Variax

I have a variax guitar and when using the distortion on some guitars it seems to give off a nasty noise - different from the sound from a pick up. It only happens with some software namely Nigel, Trash and now Guitar Rig. However, guitar port an amplitube seems to work ok.
I am thinking that it is the pickup on the variax that is causing it - seems a bit strange that with some some software it does not happen and with other it does.

I don't have a Variax, but if you manage to isolate the problem, do us a favor & post your findings here. I was considering a Variax myself, and would be intrested in hearing what the problem is.

I think personally the problem is that certain software manufaturers have not taken into account that the variax works in a different way to most guitars ie. the pickups work differently and I am sure that this is the root of the problem. Like I said GuitarPort which is essentially software works great with the variax and Amplitube seems to work great with it. However, all the other plugins have problems when the distortion is cranked up and to me become unusable which is a shame as Nigel for one is a good plugin.

I do not have this issue w/Nigel -- at least not that I have noticed. Can you give details about your setup such as what Variax model and Nigel preset you are using? Also, are you running the Variax directly to your interface (which one?) or through a pre-amp?
I can try to duplicate this issue if I have more details and post my findings.

Naver had any problems here, my Variax as always been way quieter than a normal pickuped guitar. Having said that Nigel does have some very noisy presets. I tend to put the variax through a PODXT in preamp only mode.

I normally run my guitar through a guitar port but can also use preamp - i get the same results from both. In Nigel, you can try the Arena Rock God - it is more noticeable after you stop playing there is a buzzy after effect that is not particularly nice - basically it occurs on any presets with heavey distortion.

I'll try a similar setup this weekend and let you know what I find...
