krks 6 g2s crapping out on my after 6 years of non stop use. the left speaker keep crackling and they just don't sound as good as when i bought them. they are like scarred war veterans and need to be replaced.
but what to replace them with? i realize that the new ones i buy wont be as good as the when i bought my krk 6 g2s due to the cost i can afford but honestly im done with the whole spending the nest egg on studio monitors thing. if theirs one thing ive discovered about studio monitors its that:
1) monitor quality does not create a quality creative output that being the actual production. that is completely based on the skill of the producer.
2) when all the fancy bells and whistles are gone a studio monitor is a studio monitor and while there are many options to choose from, they all do the same thing and serve the same purpose at the base level, though the more you spend, the better sound you get which can't be denied.
3) quality isn't always so cut and dry and that a good producer can make up for the lack of quality/pricy monitors or at least compensate by 'learning' them.
4) similar to 1) you can make shitty music on quality/expensive monitors and in the hands of a skilled producer one can make great music on a budget ones.
so with all that said, what are some decent studio monitors in the under 200-300 range? also considering studio monitoring headphones that might offer a better value in the long run due to to my limited budget.

What are you producing?
For my trance, electro, dubstep, hip hop, metal, I LIIIIIIIIIIKKKEEEEE
M audio bx5a
The Maudio Bx5a regular not d2 I have is. Extremely flat not extremely detailed. But It has enough detail for me. I can hear saturations, whines, distortions, but honestly I haven't messed around that much acousticely except for my harmonica. Try Anthony Lowery FAITH FOX "LOrd im ready" on soundcloud to hear a little.
For headphones believe it or not I like my Generic for straight up cheapos. They 100 times better than Radio Shacks which didn't work at all.
My Geneirc Headphones cost me 8 bucks are only 64 ohm so they poorly they don't get loud. But not ironicaly what they do handle they handle well. ANd, they bass. They sound analog ee. But hey theyre 8 bucks and they don't blow. Or they haven't come close on my Ipod.
Try amazon for Genric headphones. Worth 12 bucks for a shot if they work good enough for you but atleast they put on a cool look and sound decent for around the house and walks.
Cheers MATE!
Check it, Antone

I have those too. No idea how they compare to other stuff though. They supposedly have a little weakness in the low mids. At least that's what i read in some reviews. Question whether that's a real problem.
What i can say is that they sound really dry, highs a bit exaggerated what i don't like so much, but overall they're pretty ok i guess. Also most sold studio monitors according to the stickers on the front.

They are infinately better than the BX5s or RP6s. I've had them all.

They're much underrated. I'm using the 601a's now, although they've been discontinued now I notice in favour of the new 401/501/801 range.

The 402's and 502's (well, after discounting the 502's) are in the right price range.chk071 wrote:The 601a's seem to be about 500$ for 2 monitors.

You can use PayPal Bill-Me-Later to give you $250 financing for 6 months. That works almost anywhere: with us, on eBay, and I think any website that accepts PayPal.
