I'm on OSX. Are there any decent VST wrappers that are reliable? A quick Google seems to show a number of questionable ones, lots of tedious workarounds, etc. I just want to check what the consensus is here. Thanks.

I used Wine on Linux for a long time. It worked pretty well. I can try it with OSX 10.9... Which OS version do you have?bh9090 wrote:I'm on OSX. Are there any decent VST wrappers that are reliable? Aw yeah!! I've played with Swierk just a little bit -- just the presets -- and have been impressed by it. Darn good synth.
I'm sure there'll be some crazy-cool entries this month!

I was hoping to find a manual for this one. No luck so far.
However, I have found a couple youtuber vids -- on Saltine's channel no less!
EDIT: Okay, it appears these are for an older version of Swierk .. so I'm not sure how useful they actually are.
Swierk Overview Pt 1
Drzewo Swierk tutorial. Creating a synthesized kick drum with Swierk
Anyone know of any more? (or a manual, that'd be nice too)
EDIT:
Also note that there was a version update to v1.1.0 as of May 23 ... I just noticed that right now looking at Saltine's facebookie page.
"Swierk has been updated to V1.1 and is now available for free download from saltline.co.uk/swierk.html. This is a maintenance update but I have also added a LP and HP filter to the output section. These can also be selected as destinations (separately or joined) through the modulation matrix."

Ftm it seems the extra banks work only with older versions of Swierk (or at least on my machine) - with the newest version I get a parameter loading failure message (prolly due to the latest changes). I can load them just fine with 1.0.9 - can still load them with 1.1.0, bit I get that message. Just saying'

My older home-brewed presets won't work with 1.1.0 as idfpower mentions- but there are a bunch of
newer presets included already in 1.1.0 other than the "factory" ones.
It might not be immediately obvious, but one of my favorite features for sound design in Swierk: there are a total of 8 "external modulation matrix" slots, selectable via the 4 buttons above the "glide" knob- makes for much expressiveness, with velocity, aftertouch, etc. affecting LFO rate, IM (internal modulation) amount and more.. even the mod wheel can be set for "0 to 10" or "-5 to +5", and the "amount" sliders mean things can be as subtle or drastic as you like.
Also can't help but mention ADHDidi as being something I've been proud to be a part of, even if Ted's done all
the heavy lifting; for those who might've gotten a hold of the earlier version, there's some new features
that make it a more capable and varied beast than its first incarnation-
all thanks to Ted for asking for feedback and working hard to make it happen

Hmmm.... Well, I downloaded all the available extra presets. Unfortunately, when I try to open them (the same way I did successfully for the VOPM presets), it immediately crashes my VST host ( LMMS), both on my computer at work (Windows 7, 8GB RAM) and my computer here at home (Windows XP, 4GB RAM). Everything else seems to be functioning perfectly, with both my computers and LMMS.
I'm already going into this OSC 64 with a couple disadvantages: (1) a vst-noobie, and (2) billions of brain cells permanently mis-placed or destroyed during the '70's --- so I certainly don't need any additional disadvantages.
I would greatly appreciate any ideas on how I can successfully access those extra presets.
thanks!

According to the above info, the new version of Swierk is not working with the old presets, so maybe that's part of the problemsizemore0409 wrote:

I guess I should have read the previous posts before posting mine. I think maybe my question was answered there, but I'm not 100% positive (please see disadvantage #2, mentioned in my previous post above).
Does this mean I should download the previous version of Swierk, if I wish to use the extra presets?
And, if so, couldn't I use both versions of Swierk, to take maximum advantage of all available presets?
Any additional helpful insights for the noobie?
thanks!
Andy

Hiya!
I just spent a few hours going through presets, then messing around with making some patches and seeing what sorts of sounds can come out of this thing.
As such, I've got a couple questions:
1) In the LFO section ...
a) What does the knob that appears to be labeled both "Release" and "Signal" do? I couldn't notice any sound change just by fiddling with it.
b) The Rate options. Those little buttons labeled "N", "T", and "D" .. what do those do? Are they only for the Rate>Sync setting? .. Either way, what DO they do?
c) In the LFO 1&2 settings. Wave position. The behavior I expected there was for the position of each to come from the settings for each LFO on it's own. While that DOES initially seem to be the case, upon moving the wave position in the LFO 1&2 settings, it changes the wave position in each individual LFO ... I'm a bit confused how I'm supposed to use this.
2) The Envelope 3 section ...
a) The Sustain Stage, Repeat Stage, and Adjust Total Time sub-menus you get when clicking on the envelope window ..... uhh ... how do I use these?
b) The boxes for stage adjustment. I get that there are up to 8 stages, and that each box adjusts one of those stages. However, there are 9 boxes. The last box can be dragged up and down, but dragging left and right changes the ... uh ... width? time? zoom? ... I'm just not sure. .. What's up with that 9th box?
3) The Internal Modulation Matrix. Are these applied sequentially, in order? To wit .. if I apply two different sources to the same destination, how is that then calculated? .. I've already had success applying both an ADSR envelope and Envelope 3 to the volume, and that sounded neato. .. It seemed to me that the Amount slider is mostly what determined which one had the greatest affect (which makes sense) but still there seemed to be more going on there. As in how they added together.
Well ... that's it for now I guess. I've been able to figure everything else out for the most part I think.
Awesome synth Saltine. Great work!!
And if anyone is interested, I put together a completely blank empty patch bank you can download if you like. (I think this is the right link)

Okay guys, I've updated the Kraftraum and James Pearl presets. I just loaded them in to the new version and resaved as FXB files. Therefore it should not come up with the error message again and allow you to use the presets. Although i get the error message it never actually affects my DAW as it has with other's here. Sorry about that. I hope you all manage to use them now.
Ted

I just spent a few hours going through presets, then messing around with making some patches and seeing what sorts of sounds can come out of this thing.
As such, I've got a couple questions:
A) The LFO knob titled release is for setting the time it takes for the LFO signal to stop after releasing the midi key. Works the same as the release on an envelope so for example, you may have a long release on the volume and you want the LFO to continue as the note fades or maybe you want it to stop straight after note release.
B) The N,T and D buttons are related to the sync, these set the sync to Normal, Triplet or Dotted quantise.
C) The wave position slider is related to the retrigger button next to the wave view window. This allows you to set the point of trigger when a note is played. When off the wave position will change the phase of the LFO but both will be free running.
2
A)Sustain stage, Repeat stage and total time adjust the characteristics of the envelope. If you set it to 3 active stages (Start,1 and 2) set sustain stage to OFF and set repeat stage to 2 it will repeat over the stage 2 shape when it reaches the end of the envelope. Same with sustain but when using repeat set sustain to OFF.
Adjust total time will change the speed of the envelope.
I've created a quick demo using the repeat stage on envelope 3. Be sure to look at the active stages, sustain stage and repeat stage menus in the dropdown list to see the settings and how it works. Drag the boxes to hear how it affects the volume.
http://www.saltline.co.uk/Downloads/Pre ... 20demo.rar
B)The last stage is the release of the envelope after note off. It does not adjust time, it only adjusts how quick the release is. The rest of the envelope moves simply to fill the view window for editing.
3
Order is not important in the internal mod matrix, if 2 sources are sent to 1 destination the result is simply added depending on the amount (strength) of the signal.
I hope this helps. I really should write a manual but find I spend too much time creating the instruments instead, difficult when it's just myself.
The videos on youtube do still apply to the current version but I understand there are a lot more features now. Sorry I've neglected to update these things I intend to soon, time goes so quick.
Anymore questions I'll answer as quick as I can.

I have a Polish partner and she saw some of the drawings I had done when planning some of these synths out. She thought they looked like trees, hence I called the series 'drzewo' (tree) and each synth has a name of a tree in Polish.Chris-S wrote:Yes, a good choice for the challenge.
Does anybody know why it has this polish name?

I re-downloaded the James Pearl set, and it now works fine.
However, the originally-downloaded Kraftraum presets still crash my VST host when I try to access them; and when I tried to re-download the Kraftraum presets, I received a 404 page not found error message every time.
Plus, a couple more questions about the Kraftraum presets: (1) Am I supposed to download the set of 19, or the set of 50? And do I understand correctly that I would need FL Studio to use the set of 50?
And finally, do we expect to be able to use the Daniel Stawczyk presets during the OSC 64?
thanks!
