Im in the market for a second host. Iv been a Cubase man now for some time, but Im sick of the way you cant route multiple signals to effects! I really cant be arsed with Logic (dont have a mac anyway), but that is the only other host i know (besides PT which i cant afford  ). Could anyone recommend a program to use as a secondary host? One which will allow more flexible routing to fx? Doesnt have to be anything special, just so I can have a f**k about with some of these cool side chain fx. Also, it would be nice if it had some kind of automation.

Cheers! :)

Well there is XT to help boost just about any host (though it can be a stand alone too) about 40 odd dollars is a bargin with real power. And getting more powerful all the time - one cool app imo. You need it get it.

Another:

InTraction $80   (still can’t spell it) :)

But Yet another one to look out for in the future is Podium $90 (lots of work to be done on it yet imo) I have been trying out the demo and been asking on their forums about price and expected direction of development – looks like the guy will be giving the major apps a run for their money in the future – I have placed it on my watch list to see how it advances. (I will hold off from buying Sonar till then I think)

Best regards,

Yeh, I keep hearing people mention this energy XT. Iv not used it yet so Im not 100% sure what its all about. But I get the impression its kind of like a work space to connect various synths and fx etc within another vst host? Bit like TC Spark?

I give it a try anyway, cant argue with the price thats for sure.

Cheers!

no, it's vst/vsti where you can connect everything with everything, it also has two different arpeggiators, it has midi-envelopes and much more.
But it is also a complete standalone-sequencer with several great features which e.g. Cubase doesn't offer.

and yes, Podium is fantastic as well. :D

Jens, are you able to route audio tracks into it for use with multi in effects? Tell you why i ask - it seems more and more of the techniques i want to use require this ability. Doing stuff like sending audio to a reverb, then feeding it back into itself. And using stereo vocoders with stereo tracks for both mod and carrier. You see the type of thing Im trying to do?

You can do this with AudioMulch (not sure about the vocoding, though, depends on the vocoder, I guess).

You could also give ABox2 a look http://www.andyware.com/abox2/

really nice modular environment for audio and midi in a similar vein to Reaktor, sou can build your own synths effects, sequencers and even algorithmic compsotion engines the author calls "jambots"

Damn stable, really lite on the CPU, can host vst itself and not many other people use it if thats a bonus to you  . In combination with EnergyXT youd have a really felixible environment . Only about 60 quid, the devs a nice bloke too and is quick to reply to queries
