I've been considering an ilok 2 JUST to get the slate limiter. I know, it's so stupid

I don't think there is a lot of vitriol in this thread in this thread at all. One thing that always goes wrong is that people get too entrenched in their opinion. It's fine to be on either side, just understand not everyone agrees with you (whomever)

I'm happy with it. It is iLok number two plugin for me. I've recently committed to having ilok because I need Max on a dongle. So, I have iLok, for better or for worse. Before I kill my Max install on my current machine I've been testing out iLok with other plugins to make sure that the experience is reasonable, for me. So far so good, I'm cautious, but I'm pretty much committed to dongles as I hate C/R.Endor-8o8 wrote:You're all talking about how much Ilok/Pace is "intrusive", how many of you have a FB profile ?
Come on, is there anyone who can discuss just the Ultrachannel sound and details please...
I agree with do_androids_dream. The pitch shifting is beautiful, honestly, I have nothing to compare it with so I couldn't tell you how it compares to the competition. The compressors, especially the optical compressor, sound good to me. I also like the the transformer emulation. I think that it's a damn nice plugin for free. I've had a few strange problems with the U/I not responding. I can't tell if that's cubase or the plugin, but it's there. Nothing that's a deal breaker, it just seems that perhaps there's a bit more debugging to do. I haven't installed it on my PC yet, just on my mac.
When it's not glitching, I love the interface. It's concise and functional. I really like being able to change the order of the modules.
Would I pay $249? No, but, please take that with a grain of salt. I have NEVER paid more than $200 for ANY single plugin and I probably never will. I only add this so that you can properly bound my opinion in terms of experience with high end plugins.
Hope this helps.

FWIW: PACE/ilok has caused absolutely no problems on my computer or any of my old computers. don't want to say that people are blowing things out of proportion, but maybe it's a PC thing.V0RT3X wrote:So say someone wants to uninstall pace and ilok, is it easy?
It does'nt entrench itself in your computer after does it?
Ok good to know, I was just curious. thx for the reply

SoundToys one is slightly better, seems inspired by Eventide one and further developed.hibidy wrote:I didn't notice the micro pitch shift. I wonder how it compares to the soundtoys freebie I missed out on a while back?

The developers at Soundtoys used to work for Eventide, and basically wrote the original pitch shifting algorithms used in the famous Eventide Harmoniser series (H3000, H8000 etc. etc.) so that's why they sound similar.
I haven't compared directly, but really like UltraChannel. Sets up a very nice, wide vocal effect that works brilliantly for some material. So good, it's painful to take it off

@hibidy
Sorry! I didn't make myself clear... I meant generally and not particularly to this thread that there seems to be quite a lot of negativity aimed at Pace.
Critique is one thing but the amount of vitriol aimed at Pace/iLok sometimes is simply too one sided when one considers that its the developers decision who they work with.
Like I said there are enough alternatives without - as you point out - people getting entrenched or stuck on one thing or the other.
Sorry you missed out on the Soundtoys deal... but the Eventide sounds pretty good as well:)

I've already made multiple comments on how it sounds in this thread.Endor-8o8 wrote:Come on, is there anyone who can discuss just the Ultrachannel sound and details please...

There are alternatives to iLok. I prefer something that does not require drivers or other low level system priveledges. This is because software is dominated by the hardware it runs on, and if I choose to admonish that software, I also relieve that hardware. I gotta run a workstation here, I don't want to create problems.

I haven't given much time to the delay yet but my initial tests were very favourable. The fact that it can be routed all over the place makes it a fun prospect for experimenting.

Your association of the two comps is very interesting. I didn't have much time to test this channel strip but the comps seems to be very punchy (obviously the O-pressor is VERY punchy). I really love the choices offered in the eq (which sounds very sweet to me), filter orders/peak/shelf. The saturation stages (both Transo and "Sat") are pretty useful too, add some loudness and character to the sound. I didn't mess with the pitchshifter and delay...So far this channel strip is a really great workhorse.do_androids_dream wrote:Right onEndor-8o8 wrote:Yeah well let's keep doing so...do_androids_dream wrote:I've already made multiple comments on how it sounds in this thread.Endor-8o8 wrote:Come on, is there anyone who can discuss just the Ultrachannel sound and details please...I used it as vocal channel strip yesterday in a clients mix and after less than a minutes tweaking I got a very useable result. The combination of 2 compressors was lovely (I often end up using 2 comps on vocals) - one at 4:1 ratio then into the eq - some high pass filtering - then into the second comp at a very low ratio with gentle softening of peaks. Seems to give a certain vibe to everything I've tried it with. Here is where all the cliche words come out... warm (so, nicely saturated/distorted) and weighty with a sparkle is how I would describe it. The pitch shifter is wonderful - can very subtley enhance and thicken/widen or can be made to sound totally obvious like a gimmicky effect. Comparing it to other freeware (I've been around the block in freeware land) it sits head and shoulders above almost everything else in my plugin folder - especially the pitch shifter. I'm sure there's plenty of payware that compares very well but I mostly use freeware plugins.
