My grandfather was a producer and musician for old american jazz and swing bands. I inherited a lot of his vintage studio when passed away some years ago. My mother played piano and guitar and always made sure to have one around, though i payed only small attention to that until I was in my early teens. My younger sister is a bass player and DJ and my cousin that I grew up with (actor Jeremy Renner) is also musically inclined. Its a sporadic gene, but it seems to bounce around the family a little. With any luck, my kids will be tone deaf.

Who's your son then?
Lobotomy. Not much of a poster but had actually more than 1 post (deleted ones). You can find him at this thread: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... c&start=75
my son is here too (rarely)...he has FL, but he doesn't do much music.

Mine used to make music mostly with GuitarPro. He had a band in the past and is starting a new one now. And he's trying to get to grips with Live; last Christmas he got a JamLab for guitar recording (my idea, actually). But it's up to him to talk about a musical family :hihi: .
Eventually something intelligent will appear written here. Watch this space.

Nope. My father played trumpet as a kid but gave it up after HS. He listens to pop classical and Celtic instrumental music, but as my mother dislikes all music, especially anything with vocals, he tends not to play it much. As far as I know, none of my grandparents ever had time or money enough to buy and learn instruments. Neither of my brothers play instruments, though my younger bro performs in a singing group that goes around to old folks homes to annoy captive/elderly audiences. He's in that because of his interest in theater and because his wife is into it. But I really wouldn't call that musical in that they are in it more for the live performance than the music. My younger bro also has a couple synths he tinkers with only for teaching others the tunes they sing. No one in my family other than me creates their own music.

I'm a loner. A rebel.

I only found out some years ago that most of my family members on my mothers side were very musical, playing one or more instruments. None of them could read notes or knew anything about theory , one also had a music store and gave music lessons. Most of them I never knew, they were all long gone before my time, the only one i have seen playing organ was my uncle and hes gone now too. My mother doesnt play any instrument but she is very ''addicted' to listening to music. It seems like me and my younger brother are the only ones in the family who still make music.

Now that I would love to hear! Was it an Ottawa country/rock band?
Nope, they were based out of Portage la Praire, MB. And this particular band was more like... hrm... mellow rock? All peace and love, but not in the psychadelic way... just in the mellow way... ;)

PM me with your e-mail address and I'll shoot you a few select MP3s if you like, while waiting for me to put the site back up again. :)

My Mother was very musical. She taught us to sing at an early age. In fact she even wrote a song to help us with our musical theory. My Father played a bit of guitar but he was quite shy.
I think Uncle Max had a few musical connections. He got us our first gig. My family could have been huge but that whole war thing got in the way and we had to flee to Switzerland.

No wait a second...

That's the Von Trapp Family.

My Dad was a tenor in a choir until he went through a windshield in an accident. When he came out of hospital he had become a baritone.
His sister, my aunt, sang opera as an amateur.
Both me and my sister are singers/performers.
Freaked our mum out when we both went in that direction.
My youngest daughter (17) has always had a good voice and has started writing and composing, she sounds great but then I'm biased. Currently she's studying performing arts at a college in Truro, UK.

No, no, none of my parents. My sister self-taught classical guitar.

No, just me, but I don't consider myself a musician. It's just something to pass the time, as is Nintendo games and Youtube.

My mom played the piano, and my grandma did too. Neither of them very seriously. Grandma got really annoyed when I improvised on the piano. Especially when I was doing ostinato on one hand and soloing with the other, or if I was using the sustain pedal "too much" or playing clusters or open octaves -- all of that was playing it "wrong."

Given the kind of person she was and the kind of person I still am, that was a signal I was doing something cool and interesting and should keep exploring it.

Dad doesn't have the slightest shred of musical talent, he claims, but he introduced me to electronic music through 8-tracks of Wendy Carlos and Isao Tomita (and Pink Floyd and Alan Parsons Project...) and he bought me my first synths and gear while I was in high school.
