Hi guys,
lately i've been listening quite a lot the Raster Noton's sound which i find so interesting.
I'm trying to work with Reaktor to achieve this kind of sound which could be a drone, a distortion, a multilayered kick rhythm, a glitchy beat, resonances and so on..but i'm not that satisfied;
So i think that could be interesting if anyone of you could share any type of advice to achive some of the typical Raster Noton's sounds.
Here i've linked the lastest Emptyset Album where the distortions are amazing and some tracks i like!

Hope to hear some great tips from you and that this topic could become very interesting for sound designers.
Thanks in advance

Yes, i love that stuff too.
Would be great to hear some sound designer's point of view on it and some technical advices on how to achieve those sounds.
This could become a good topic.

Stumbled across this necrothread, thought I'd post a link to some in the box (plugins only) soundalike demos I made; Soundcloud link

Sounds fantastic, stk! How did you do it, especially those feedbacks?

I went through your Soundcloud tracks, lovely stuff!! I’d love to learn more about your process — and how do you generate those organic feedbacks, are they part of the patch, triggered by side-chaining?stk wrote: Thu Apr 28, 2022 12:00 am Stumbled across this necrothread, thought I'd post a link to some in the box (plugins only) soundalike demos I made; Soundcloud link

All those snippets come from a "patch" I built in FL Studio. It's a pair of Sine+Noise oscs (FL's native 3xOsc generator), routed through two parallel chains of stacked saturation, compressors and EQs (Waves J37, Presswerk, Soundtoys). Depending on the snippet the generators are routed through each chain in varying amounts, and sometimes one chain is routed into the other (but no feedback routing, which is sadly not possible in FLS).
The "feedback" you hear is actually an instance of Waves J37 set up as a fast tape delay with high feedback, on another fx send. There's some side chain ducking and additional automation going on to achieve the swells, and to keep it under control.
That's the basic technical setup; the rest is gently tweaking parameters and experimenting with different levels until that magic cohesion of weight and timbre is achieved for a particular series of notes.
Haha yes, the low end can get off the hook at times!

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense!stk wrote: Fri Apr 29, 2022 12:20 am The "feedback" you hear is actually an instance of Waves J37 set up as a fast tape delay with high feedback, on another fx send. To answer the OG question I think artist from R.N use a lot of recordings of inputs, jacks that dont work properly, noisy gear, maybe recording machine and electromagnetic fields. This is just an educated guess I could be wrong. If you want those types of sounds, there this massive library of free sounds for BBC : https://sound-effects.bbcrewind.co.uk/
I made a small ableton jam inspired by the Raster Noton sounds if you want to hear it :
I make electronic music - DAW of choice : Live 12
