I have a problem...
I'm trying to use my computer as an effect for my guitar, I'm running Cubase SX and it's plugged like this:

Guitar -- > Amp -- > PC (Cubase SX2) Effect processing -- > Output

well.. I get the amp into my computer through the mic input on my sound card, cubase picks up the signal in the audio In channel of the mixer, processes the sound but it doesn't output :(

I just want Input -> Process -> Out to speakers...

Is there a way to do this??
I have a crappy sound card (sum' Creative stuff, I just recently started recording stuff, been using vst's for a while and haven't needed a better card).
Do I need an ASIO capable soundcard, and if so, what card should I buy (Is Audiophile 24/96 enough?? )

I believe you need to arm the track for recording. It's been awhile since I used Cubase (vst/32), but I remember it was a real pain getting anything without actually recording, then I realized I just had to ARM the track & there it was.

You also need to check the monitoring options in your Cubase prefs

Also, you can use a freeware audio sequencer called Kristal, that's made for pretyy much exactly what you wanna do without all the Cubase butt-O-ramma.

Hi Valdiorn,

Once you 'Arm' the track for recording you need to monitor the input (at least in SX 1.x you do).

This will give you the input (plus whatever fx and gubbins your using) back out. Its all in the manual...

Ok so how do I arm the track??

Also, I can't use monitoring because I don't have asio features on my card (that is probably why this ain't working for me :) ), but in case I buy a new sound card I need to ask:
If I'm using monitoring in Cubase, what signal is outputted?? (I don't really know how to explain this..) is it 50/50 input audio and the processed audio or can I choose 100% processed audio output??

I don't know what the hell I'm talking about anymore ;)

I think this will be a problem Valdiorn. If you cant hear what your playing your going to need a funkier soundcard to use SX. Im sure the more knowledgable chaps here may be able to help with something like Chainer etc but your going to need a full duplex card anyhoo.

With regards to monitoring in SX what you put in is outputted + any send or insert fx,eq etc. You can choose the wet/dry balance you need - again its in the manual.

Also, I did NOT need a 3rd party soundcard to run guitar through VST/32, although I'm not sure about SX. Would seem to be back-asswards to not be able to do what I did in the older version.

Allright, I figured this thing out now, couldn't have done it without your help :)

and damn :) 80ms delay on the input using DirectX Asio driver :o I guess I should get me a better card then ;)
