I built my SX box about 4 months ago. Got stuff installed... happy as pie!!
My system was running great. I wasn't getting any of the "common" problems that others report. Midi timing was fine... etc.
I am connected to the net... after installing Komplete 2 and Instant Messenger 6.2... i started getting the some weirdness.
1. When i click on any of my drives C,D,E... even the DVD-ROM... i sometimes have to wait for 20 seconds for it to pop up on my desktop.
2. Gigastudio can't find my DIGI 9652 anymore. I get an initialization error. #218. "GigaStudio is experiencing initialization problems - error 218"
3. I am now getting the close SX and wait 3 minutes bug. Never had this until now. It sure is a pain.
4. While zooming in i get long screen pauses between zooms. Playback is fine while zooming. But this is a new phenomenom.
I really don't want to reinstall. I tried system restore and it didn't fix any of these issues.
i guess this is what i get for not ghosting it.
Anyone else ever experience #1 ???

Instant Messenger, would be my guess... Don't install any downloading services (Kazaa etc.), messengers, and don't use IE or Outlook Express!

I'd suggest this browser/email client - http://www.opera.com/ . There are others too, like Mozilla/Firefox etc. Basically ANY alternative browser and email client is ALOT safer then IE and Outlook.jerdude wrote: no IE... no outlook express? are you a microsoft hater?
what the hell am i to use then?
IE and Outlook are backdoors into your computer, they will let any virus, mask, trojan etc through. They will also let hackers take control of your computer without you knowing it. IE is built on 2-3 years old technology, and it has more security holes then a swiss cheese...
And you should not use any other MS programs like MSN Messenger etc, since they WILL mess up your computer, and let virus, hackers etc through. It's not about hating MS, it's just the way it is.
Sorry i can't help about all the other stuff.

Only a little comment, advice actually... when you feel your system is working well and smooth, make a backup with Norton Ghost and then try things so if you f-up something, you can always get back to your old and reliable system. It works for me, and I never have to worry about testing things out. If something breaks, if some driver doesn't work as expected... it is great to have a backup to which you can come back to afterwards.

Opera just rules! i love the tabbed browsing feature, "start from last time" and so on.
if you want a memory/user-friendly messenger try trillian ( http://www.trillian.cc ). It's free and takes only half of Y!M memory. Includes yahoo, msn, icq, irc, jabber. And of course... no ads.
