Another one was "Spicy Guitar", pretty sure it wasn't samples, either free or set free. Not sure how to currently get it, if it's up, waybackmachine link, or the reup gems thread here? It was pretty good.

(kind of Physically Modelled)
Cycle from Amaranthaudio is (to my ears) very capable of producing a good (bass) guitar sound!
And absolutely NO samples used! . .
I didn't know it. I've just heard the demos in the KVR product page. Beautifuls sounds quite close to several instruments (even acoustic) among the presets shown.
It's a shame that all the electric guitar sounds are overdriven. I would like to assess a cool electric guitar sound in it.
But I retain it at least to complete my gear of synths. It is probably somewhat not easy to learn because its conception (and the spectral synthesis) is totally different of the more usual synthesis methods but it can be a good experience to make.

From their site:
"Spicy Guitar is a free physically modelled acoustic guitar synthesizer. Relying on an innovative technology, its sounds are rich, natural and lively. "
It actually does sound decent.

I have it. Very good, I like it... but it is only acoustic guitars.RunBeerRun wrote:Another one was "Spicy Guitar", pretty sure it wasn't samples, either free or set free. Not sure how to currently get it, if it's up, waybackmachine link, or the reup gems thread here? It was pretty good.
Revitar 2 also is an as good guitar emulation. I compare both at the same level. And Revitar 2 has en electric guitar body among the six available... but it sounds poor in its electric emulation, the product (as Spicy guitar) being thought in focused of acoustic emulations and the only electric emulation being there "just for fun" in my opinion.

I agree with everything you said there-as an actual guitar and bass player, I haven't been too impressed with modeling, and AAS has looked the best to me (but I don't own them).

When I got it (in August 2013) it was here:RunBeerRun wrote:Another one was "Spicy Guitar", pretty sure it wasn't samples, either free or set free. Not sure how to currently get it, if it's up, waybackmachine link, or the reup gems thread here? It was pretty good.

And the website is still open.
What looks strange is that there is an electric guitar in their demos. But the choice is of only 9 acoustic guitars (see this screenshot on my computer) and I have never been able to produce a convincing electric guitar with it, even with my effects following it in the rack of my DAW.

Haven't heard much here about acoustic bass emulations. I'd love one. I have several sample-based ones, some pretty good, but none of them really float my boat, and the static-ness of samples in general bothers me, a lot. Once was a time I swore I'd never use any, guess I'm weak
.
I have Chromaphone, didn't hear anything I'd actually use for upright, but I don't have the ChromaKey sounds, so maybe it's possible. Also don't have String Studio. Thinking about it since it's on special now BTW, good price, but I haven't run into any uprights that realistic in there so far either.
Bottom line is that modeled acoustic bass suggestions most are welcome!
About the Spring2 demos, are you saying that's synth guitar? Really good if it is, but I bet just the verb is synthesized. Don't care that much, since my main instrument is guitar, but I'd still be impressed.

I discover the new version of Revitar... Many things have change that I wasn't aware...
http://asseca.org/revitar.html
Examples:
- Usable to synthesise Acoustic, Electric and Bass guitars
...
Here is a bank I created for Revitar 2: -- Clean Electric Guitar Collection
...
A second bank experimental bank for Revitar 2: -- Bass Guitar Collection
I think I'm going to update my old version and give a new try in this totally new version. I knew the existence of this new version by another developer but I didn't yet try it.

The project is to be run with the less cost possible for everyone, so with no new hardware material apart what we already have of course.
Concerning Korg, I love the KLC, I have the full collection, I use it everyday and it is one of my go-to gear. And I'll use it in my compositions for this project! But even in their best sounds they don't fit at all what I need to emulate the cool sounds of electric guitars and acoustic/electric basses that I have in head for this project (listen to the examples that I have put in my OP to have an idea).
And the purchase of new hardware gear... totally off topic.

Well if you want a convincing computed plucked string you're going to have to buy hardware or Cakewalk's Dimension Pro (but don't). Try here and take your pick...BlackWinny wrote: And the purchase of new hardware gear... totally off topic.

They're called the Sondius patents and they only come properly done in hardware.

With Revitar - you may want to try different builds on Asseca's page, for stability. So far I only have the newest one, and it's hella crashy.

Sounds like a bunch of arbitrary restrictions for the sake of arbitrary restrictions. If you just want to make noise with what you have around the house, grab some pots and pans. If you want the best that software PM has to offer, then you've probably heard it already. If you want realistic sounding bass and guitar then you'll either need to use sample-based products... or hire a bass/guitar player and do it the old fashioned way.BlackWinny wrote:The project is to be run with the less cost possible for everyone, so with no new hardware material apart what we already have of course.
You need to limit that rez, bro.

It has to be completely no samples, dammit.kbaccki wrote:Sounds like a bunch of arbitrary restrictions for the sake of arbitrary restrictions. I don't see how the restrictions are arbitrary at all.
Seems to me to have been thought through and the decisions made given the opening post. Quite explicit.
