Hey brother,
I'll give it a try as post my impressions asap.
Anyway, regarding the interface: Don't ever underestimate the power of aesthetics and its influence over perception and usability.
There's a substantial amount of information about it, specially in the field of Industrial and Interaction Design.
I recommend reading a book called Emotional Design, by Donald Norman...To sum up the author basically analyzes several case studies and concludes one thing: Beautiful things work better...It's all about perception.
Beautifully developed plugin interfaces also make them sound "better" because it makes them more pleasant to use...Just test check it for yourself: Release the same plugin with two different interfaces, one good and one bad, then make a blind test and ask people which one sounds better...See for yourself if you don't believe it.
Another thing: Never underestimate the feedback of your clients and/or peers. People here are saying the interface isn't nice. Just listen to them and make it better. Leave pride aside when it comes to business.
Anyway, what bothers me the most is indeed the lateral tilt. Most people feel uncomfortable with displaced things...Most people like to align stuff. I'm sure a new render from a frontal orthographic point of view will look much better.
Just my two cents,
Raf.

Thinking about getting this and Logic tonight,
it sounds like I can run it on 2 systems
Pity that the straight-on perspective will be in future,
but the people have spoken

So please, change the interface so it looks like any combination of the others I already have, so I don't buy this one, too!
Love the GUI. Probably won't be able to keep from buying, now that it's x64.
So as you see, there's not exactly consensus that what I went for was "bad".
Still, YES, in the future, I'll resist the urge to come at you slanted. You guys win. But for now, sorry, this is SCAMP!

And yes, Nix, you can run on as many systems as you own. We've changed the license agreement to reflect that, as it's been an issue for some in the past. (And you already can with Poly-Ana as well, just ask us for new keys. We haven't yet turned down a request for extras and only would if someone was requesting a lot of them too often.)nix808 wrote:I also find AQ GUIs exceptionally pleasing.

All we ask is that you only run it on one one system at the same time.

It bothers me more that there are two rack screws missing..........AdmiralQuality wrote: Still, YES, in the future, I'll resist the urge to come at you slanted. You guys win. But for now, sorry, this is SCAMP!
Maybe it's because I have owned a lot of rack gear and still own 13 spaces worth that the tilt just seems "off". Even now my racks always sit square at right angles to my work position......never tilted back......so maybe it just seems odd to me and no one else.
Like I said I may not like the style but I respect your privilege to do whatever pleases your eyes. Picasso is considered one of the greatest artists of our times but looking at his stuff makes me dizzy......

I guess I like 3d models,Teksonik wrote:
Out of curiosity what you do find appealing about the non-straight on perspective ?
with the offset, you can plainly make out that it has been modelled.
Others which also fit my aesthetic are the AudioDamage fuzz and DiscoDSP ThrillMe-
these are also keepers for me.
I just like how they look, it doesn't seem off-kilter to me,
the look is still balanced IMO, as the elements are consistent
Thanks for the clarification on the multiple systems thing AQ

Seriously? No bugs? Nothing? Wow... I must be getting good at this or something.
One customer on OSX 10.7.5 is reporting a problem with authorizing it. I'm still trying to verify that he's got the license key-file in the correct location. There are only about 5 others of you at this point, but is anyone else running a licensed SCAMP on 10.7.5?
Thanks!

I played with it for about half an hour in Reaper64 on Windows 8.1 without issue.

Wow, I am stunned. Other than the fellow having trouble getting it authorized (who we haven't heard from in a few days but we'll happily refund him if he still can't get it going) after 6 days of this new update being out we still haven't received a single bug report yet. Unprecedented!
This Beta period half price sale might end up being a lot shorter than I had thought it would. Not sure when we'll end it, but will try to give you at least a week's notice before we do.
In lieu of any bug reports, does anyone have any feature requests?
How about some of SCAMP's more rare and advanced features? Has everyone noticed it takes MIDI note input as well as controller (CC#) input? So you can literally play the filter's cutoff frequency from a keyboard or other MIDI controller!
Would also love to hear from anyone using it to process more than just stereo tracks. Channel negotiation is another area that changed a lot between VST 2.3 and 2.4, and of course in porting to AU as well, and somewhere I wouldn't be surprised to find new bugs.
And can any Logic X users verify for us that it's working? Don't have a machine with it yet as we've been trying to stick to the minimum possible spec on the Mac that will still run on the newest operating systems and hosts. (Also, frankly, I can't afford a new Mac right now.) I'm still running 10.6.8, but again, that gives us the widest possible footprint, compatibility-wise. Usually in Apple-land, switching to a new OS version for development means your customers will be forced to upgrade as well, and we don't want to help Apple play that game until it's absolutely necessary. Hopefully this new version of OS X that's just coming out in Beta now won't break anything. (And it's only been a mere 9 months since their LAST major OS X update!) It really is ridiculous how often they release new major OS updates and their general denial of any attempt at backward compatibility. Again, we do our best to maximize compatibility, SCAMP should run on OS X versions as early as 10.5 (Leopard).

I just gave SCAMP 1.3 beta a workout in Logic Pro X 10.0.7. HPF and LPF, resonance, envelope and LFO, tempo sync and free - all worked as expected. It sounds gorgeous!

And it turned out the fellow with the authorization problem was due to his email client or browser changing the file extension from SCAMP.key to SCAMP.key.txt. Once he changed it to SCAMP.key it worked fine.
So... still zero bugs! Wow!

The next (and probably final) update in the SCAMP BETA is out!
Here's what's new...
1.30 BETA 2 - 2014-08-20
- Added Options Dialog to splash screen for specifying knob mode preference, MIDI CC#, and toggling note tracking feature.
- Changed license key and .ini file location on OSX to ~/Library/Application Support/Admiral Quality/SCAMP/. Currently you will need to create this folder manually (we’re planning to eventually have an installer script do it automatically). If you had previously authorized 1.30 BETA 1, you will need to move your SCAMP.key file out of ~/Music/Admiral Quality/ to this new location.
- Fixed jerky/sluggish GUI in Windows
- Added support for all 3 VST knob modes, as well as an override in the Options Dialog for hosts that don’t allow you to set this preference. Knob modes can also be switched “on the fly” by using the modifier keys.
- OSX: It should now correctly locate the user folder for those who have their user folder located on a drive other than the system drive. (Let us know please.)
This is the end of new features to be added in this 1.30 BETA test period. If you’re interested in taking advantage of our HALF PRICE, Buy-it-in-BETA SALE, now is the time as this Beta will most probably end on the next update, coming very soon!

Can anyone verify that it's successfully finding your user folder when the user folder is on a different drive than the system drive? We don't have a machine set up that way so are relying on you guys to test it.
And it's working in all your favorite hosts?
No bug reports yet after the first week. We'll probably be ending this Beta very soon, so if you're interested in the half price Buy-it-in-Beta deal, now would be the time!

how long will it be in beta? i haven't tried it yet (and currently don't have the funds anyway) as i'm away from my music computer and will be for another week and a half, but wouldn't want to miss out on the offer...
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

Really we could do it just about any day now but early next week would probably be the soonest. You might even get your week and a half, but I can't promise it.Burillo wrote:how long will it be in beta? i haven't tried it yet (and don't have the funds anyway) as i'm away from my music computer and will be for another week and a half, but wouldn't want to miss out on the offer...
If anyone can find some bugs we'll probably extend it longer!
