FL Studio Mobile, ios vs. android version

Has anybody used FL Studio Mobile both in ios and android...?
lets say ipad vs. nexus 7 comparison. Are they in both equally good (with the exception of longer latency in android), or is there something serious that android lacks, which makes big difference in user experience..?
How about iphone vs. android phone version...?

I know, it's been like half a year but... just checked the Image Line site and KVR for infos, specifically because i wanted to know if the Android version also features the Mini Synth, and found this news item on the Image Line site: http://www.image-line.com/documents/new ... 13-android
Think i'm gonna buy this as soon as they add the Mini Synth to the Android version. FL Studio Mobile looks very good from what i've seen in the product videos.FL Studio Mobile 1.3 for Android vs FL Studio Mobile 2.2 for iOS
The feature-set of the Android and iOS versions will be harmonized in future updates, including the addition of the following features to the Android version:
Audio tracks and wave editor
MiniSynth plugin synthesizer
Background audio (playback while the app runs in the background)
While projects, .flm format, are compatible between Android and iOS, if audio tracks are present they are ignored. If instruments are not available the MIDI data is loaded and the a default instrument is used.

Just be aware of the tedious sequencer on FL Studio Mobile...
That is what drives me crazy...
They posted many months ago that they would be overhauling the whole app and was looking for Beta testers but never saw anything more about it on their website or elsewhere but maybe they plan to change how the sequencer work.
The idea is that the Android version will catch up to the iOS version but it is taking time but the most important first change would be to have the mini synth and not be dependent on just sample instruments.

beatmaker 2, nanostudio, caustic3.1, korg gadget or the next IMPC pro from retronym offer way more functionalities that the pityfull FL mobile apps,
Offtopic :
the more I own music apps on IOS the less I want to waste money on famous branding name ios product that just feel the fear to be in competition with their desktop version software and chose to make ridiculous mobile version of their app juste to be sure a 5 usd apps won't eat their 250 usd desktop software.
IMO the best is to ignore those companies who just don't make any effort to understand how the economic situation has changed since 5 years.

I don't think in this case it's the fear of concurring with its own desktop software, but rather the consideration whether it's worth to put much effort in something which returns small revenue.
Especially the Android app won't be bought that much i guess. I took a look at Caustic too, but from what i have seen from videos, it looks and sounds a bit like a toy compared. The FL Mini Synth at least sounds more or less like a VSTi, i can't say that about the Caustic synths. And the GUI majorly puts me off tbh. I don't expect a full blown DAW anyway, just a fun app to make some music on the fly. And judging by the videos, that should be the case with FL Studio. I just hope that it gets some further development. Regarding the other stuff Image Line is working on atm, i'm a little doubtful about that...

i'd go for Nanostudio (if you favour synths ) or Beatmaker 2 (if you favour samples).
I tried FL Mobile but couldnt get on with the piano roll at all.

did you ever try Caustic? it got more than one synth and you can use your own samples and singlecycle waveforms too ( which does NOT work as advertiszed within fl studio mobile - i can crash this pita by only thinking about importing own samples! ).chk071 wrote:I don't think in this case it's the fear of concurring with its own desktop software, but rather the consideration whether it's worth to put much effort in something which returns small revenue.Especially the Android app won't be bought that much i guess. I must admit that for handheld apps, it's much more about haptics for me, than it is for desktop PC apps. Caustic just doesn't talk to me, GUI wise, while i really love the GUI of FL Studio. I understand the points you made, and surely it'd be better to demo Caustic, and maybe i will. But judging from the video it tells me "No, don't try me, please don't...". Pretty emotional stuff i know, but handheld stuff is all about GUI response, intuitivity, and such. That's why some people just play around all day long with their mobile phones i guess.
It's supposed to be fun. Caustic's GUI looks like Windows 95 to me.

There is a free version of Caustic for PC / MAC that you could check out.
Which is a plus too as you can bounce projects back and forth.
There is a lot to say when it comes to the synthesizers included as well as each one covers different sonic grounds and sound good.
My favorite being the modular synth where you can build your own just as you would with a real modular.
Ahhh you even have a good vocoder built in that you can use not only for voice.
Well in the end all the sound engines are good.
Well you have already checked out the videos so guess if they do not convince you but like I said test it out first on PC / MAC maybe?
And yes since the last update there is the possibility to change GUI and there has been some very nice ones made by users already,
it is funny how much difference it makes just to switch once in a while!
Caustic is deeper and more flexible than what it appears to be...
and the Forum is one of the nicer ones you can be on in question of support, sharing and good will.
Here is where you can get the free desktop version:
http://www.singlecellsoftware.com/caustic
and underneath some samples of skins

it'as all about accepting to sell a large amount of products at a low price VS selling few products at an elistist price,chk071 wrote:I don't think in this case it's the fear of concurring with its own desktop software, but rather the consideration whether it's worth to put much effort in something which returns small revenue.Especially the Android app won't be bought that much i guess. it's all about accepting that most people are poorer than in 2010 and accepting the idea that the richer peoples in majority just don't care about making music (or any other form of art) they just buy finalized product.
it's just all about accepting the new shape of the market and IMO there are some companies who are just blind at the moment
"I don't expect a full blown DAW anyway"
it depends on what you consider as a DAW, if it's all about recording and editing audio files, sequencing midi events, using synth or sampler, adding fx and mastering your track it's allready here (on ios at least).
for all my last tracks I just use ipad air and my conclusion is :
for less than 1/10 of what I paid for my laptop/desktop rig (during the last 15 years) I get the same sound quality and functionalities and it's funnier. So bye bye expensive solution from famous brand companies who don't want to adapt to the present market reality.
any people who own korg gadget for less than 40 € already know where the futur is.
NB : It seems android offer a poor user experience for music app so you have to consider that I only talk about ios apps since I don't own any android tablet

Alright, sounds pretty good i must say. I'll give Caustic a shot then. Btw, what's so bad about FL Studio's piano roll?musical android wrote:There is a free version of Caustic for PC / MAC that you could check out.

May i ask where you're living? In germany, consumption has increased drastically, people drive bigger cars, appartment rents are increasing more and more, banks hardly give you interest anymore, because they have so much money to move around. I know there's probably people disagreeing with that again now, but if you take a serious look at it, 20 years ago there wasn't as much wealth as there is now. Anyway, offtopic political stuff.9headshydra wrote: it's all about accepting that most people are poorer than in 2010

You can not just click on and off notes.chk071 wrote:Alright, sounds pretty good i must say. I'll give Caustic a shot then. Btw, what's so bad about FL Studio's piano roll?
First you have to press a button to create a note which appears in the sequencer window and then you have to move the note where you want it. It is possible to create more notes and move them around so it is not too hard but it is more that it is to do the same when you want to delete notes and change commands all the time instead of just click in notes where you want them and delete them with a double click like in almost every other app existing.
I guess you could get used to it but it turns me off the app every time I try to use it... plus the limitation of effects and no synthesizer engine (for Android and it will come one day...they say...).

We can even make more wealth with slavery too, you know.chk071 wrote:May i ask where you're living? but it's not about having more wealth it's all about the concentration of this wealth in the hand of so few people that aren't even musician,
in this situation how could you expect to sell expensive musical softwares when your potential customers earn less and less money.
rich peoples are richer for sure, but this is not what push them to be interested in musical tools. Unless you think only rich peoples are interested in music wich is obviously pure bullshit.
and please open your eyes about the situation of the majority of peoples in europe or USA : they are just factually poorer wich has a true effect on the economic situation. To ignore it because your aunt bought a big mercedes this month (for instance) is just ridiculous.
