I was eager for the Bitwig release, was originally thinking of purchasing it, bought reaper as a stopgap, installed the bitwig demo, never got around to testing it and not sure I now have the time or inclination to learn a new daw for now (used to Reaper like its flexibility), maybe that may change, be interesting to hear how you get on though.z.prime wrote: Aside: I'm using Bitwig this month; finding LOTS of bugs with Bitwig.Overall, though, it's sorta fun to use and it does have some nice things about it. Funny, though, some things they designed better than any other DAW and some things that I feel are very important seem incomplete or missing. Strange how people prioritize features.

Is sampling to make polyphony easier allowed? it's possible with multiple layers + the paid version has polyphony so I imagine it is
this things super easy to program so I may actually be able to enter the challenge this time, already managed to create the drums I'll use and a pretty nice pad and lead

Even the freebie gets some very good sounds; would love to use some extreme sound mangling but alas, that seems a bit against the spirit of the OSC.
what were you planning on doing?

Sorry, I don't think so. Especially, if sampling and pitch shifting or repeating parts of the waves, it would be explicitly against the rules. It's a bit of a gray area if you were to, say, record all the notes at different pitches and play them back unaltered. However, this and even sampling drums is very much frowned upon / potentially against the rules, as the synth may not make the same sound for each hit (e.g. synths with free-running oscillators you might be able to get a great kick every few tries, recording it would be not the character of the synth).drunken jesus wrote:Is sampling to make polyphony easier allowed? it's possible with multiple layers + the paid version has polyphony so I imagine it is
However, there are some easy-ish ways to get polyphony, at least depending on the DAW you're using. For example, in Reaper, you can set up 3 tracks each with the synth, and a fourth for midi input. On the fourth, add piz midiPolyphony, set to max 3 channels and route the output to each of the 3 tracks with the synth, with each routing filtering for a specific midi channel 1 - 3. Then, you easily have 3 notes of poly!

Let's just say there are a few pretty interesting free sound mangling plugins I would throw on something like this simple synth. Unfortunately, most of 'em are windows only and I'm using Mac Bitwig this month... d'oh!loris16148 wrote:what were you planning on doing?

I have like 10-15 different sound fx type sounds I'm going to use a drum samples. Is it okay to stream these to save cpu? The Kick, snare and high hats I don't plan to stream. Right now I'm definetely running up the instances and I'm going to have to stream alot of sounds to fit this one together.

As rules say, just make sure you render the entire drum track so that the sound of the synth is fully preservedmysticvibes wrote:I have like 10-15 different sound fx type sounds I'm going to use a drum samples. Got it, thanks. At most I think some would be running 32 bars so that won't take up to much space streamed. Sounding good so far.

Gotcha but yeah all I was gonna do it was sample it so I could play some chords wasn't planning on doing any pitch shifting or anything, dunno if that midi plugin would work on FL Studio I know reapers sorta more modularz.prime wrote:Sorry, I don't think so. If I can't figure that plugin out I'll just sample it to write the track then split the chords into seperate instances when I mix it
I always wondered why people had so many instances in their final mix on these now I see why since I'm gonna have like 10 just with the drums & keys

For example in my OSC Aalto song, i used like around 32ish instances for the 'supersaw' pad. I think it was something like 4 notes in the chord x 8 per note detuneddrunken jesus wrote: I always wondered why people had so many instances in their final mix on these now I see why since I'm gonna have like 10 just with the drums & keys

That seems pretty crazy to me I'm not that great at sound design though so I wouldn't really think of layering something that much to get a stronger soundbjporter wrote:For example in my OSC Aalto song, i used like around 32ish instances for the 'supersaw' pad. Managed to get some pretty cool C64ish sounds out of this synth and some pretty good drums haven't managed to get a snare I've been happy with yet though
Edit: Anybody else having trouble with the GUI? I had to crank my resolution way down when I was programming sounds, & alotta synths don't even fit on my screen at the resolution I usually use, somebody should make like a zoom wrapper plugin for synths like this

Ah but touche, you see, that part was a separate project rendered as a wav file as it was hitting 95+% cpu (hence why i don't have the projects as download... couldn't be bothered yet to clean them up).z.prime wrote: LOL!!
