Flipping around yesterday and saw this. It was pretty interesting and they had Roseanne Cash, Paul Williams, as well as execs from Pandora testify.
The most interesting thing was the story a Congresswoman told of an artist from Iceland who'd made most of her money off radio plays. She moved to the USA to 'make it big', and actually had a couple of hit records, but couldn't make any money because the USA is one of 3 countries that don't pay radio play royalties.
(The other 2 are Iran and North Korea - once again we are a shining star of demagoguery - I mean democracy)

i think this needs to be followed up swiftly with some bank board meetings about music making.
and long, long rattlesnake feltching sessions about music making for all the people that went to any of the first two meetings afterwards would be a good idea too.

I thought so. Re: Spotify. I got this thing from Reverbnation asking me if I was ready to get on Spotify - for free. The problem is: they want to charge for everything, you know. It seems like every day I get spammy emails from them saying they will 'promote' my music - for a small fee. I just feel like this is a trap. Kind of like a drug dealer giving you a free taste so you'll buy more. And, I think a lot of people have what I call 'American Idol syndrome', which is having no talent, or being mediocre, and not realizing it. My point is there are a million of vultures out there, even corporate ones.
