Anyways... good luck !! :tu:

I am not defending anyone here, but there is a big difference in freelance/part time engineers, hobby users and professional studios that get paid about 200-600bucks a day.

The latter people can easily stem the price for this product, while the other fractions need to save up on money. Sometimes for a very long time. I don't like the phrase "it pays for itself in less than x days" anymore, because people seem to forget that there is more involved than having a good income. i.e. Software Maintenance, health care, simply having food for a month.

Just as a sidenote.

Else... looking at the current feature set, and I also already got a hint that the system is "open ended", the price actually seems adjusted.

I mean... let's look at the facts:
- M/S Tool
- ITU-R BS.1770 Metering
- Spectrum Analysis in various forms (Spectrograph, 1/3rd Oct, FFT)
- a scope view
- 3D view
- Goniometer
- Bitscope

Now imagine what could be possible in future, unpaid updates.
I can imagine:
- different meter types
- Multi Channel FFT (think Melda Production or Blue Cat Audio)
- more M/S tools like a "Mono Maker"
- custom phase rotation (not just 90°)
- Logging Capabilities
- who knows if certain "loudness normalisation features" will be built in

Let's take a look at the competition (metering suites)
- DMGAudio Dualism: 175 GBP/220 EUR incl. VAT
- Nugen Audio Visualizer v2 (no ITU-R BS.1770 Meter built in yet): 199USD (sans vat) / 150EUR (sans vat)
- iZotope Insight: 499 USD (sans vat) / 370 EUR (sans vat)
- AXIS Plugins Inspektor Suite: 39 EUR (annual subscription/payment)
- Pinguin SM Entry Level: 245 EUR (sans vat)
- Pinguin PG-AMM-Stereo: 695 EUR (sans vat)
- RME Digicheck (bundled with RME hardware): roughtly 500 EUR at bar minimum, incl vat however

So far, DMG Audio has the most features bundled in one tool, and it's not the end of the line either. I say the price/deal bundle is the best of them all. And you're not restricted to USB keys (which might turn off some people) or annual fees (don't pay, software stops working).

And yes, I say that as somebody who can't currently afford it.
But to me, my year-long search for a multi-tool like this would finally be over.

I actually forgot about DMG's customer discount. I have a few of his products, so I could get it for £130. Which is pretty good! :)

That said, I'm sticking Ozone, because I've been using for a year or two.

But it sounds like a great plugin especially with the discount and list of features. :)

I'd buy this but since I'll be buying Alloy & Ozone bundle I will probably eventually upgrade to Ozone Advanced so i won't need it. Still it is super nice looking though and for people who don't use Ozone, i imagine it's the next best thing.

The only DMG plugins i know i absolutely MUST buy for me in the future are Compassion & Equilibrium since they are both just.. outstanding! I've demoed them in the past and was learning so much about Equalizers and compression. I also love how many filter types are in Equilibrium and how they react extremely precisely to my ears when even doing subtle tweaks. Oh and the the CPU usage is phenomenal..

I can't wait to own Compassion and Equilibrium alongside Ozone and Alloy one day. I'll probably be set for life at least for my mixing and mastering needs..

Just a little report - on a pretty serious i7 desktop PC on Windows 7, this makes the whole system lag, all other meters and plugin's response gets extremely slow. And an interesting side effect - when trying to move any window (by dragging the title) while this plugin is open, it's jumping on a screen with like 1-2 FPS...

The demo is crashing both Ableton and Buzz when exiting full screen mode of the 3d spectrograph. Anyone else having this problem?

Post

Hey Melda & blackflag,

Thanks for the bug reports, there's been a few Windows 7 users that have said similar things, are you on 7 blackflag? We've heard of a couple of other users that had a crash from exiting the fullscreen spectrograph today, so we're on a mission tomorrow to try and track that one down. I don't think we've heard anything from anyone other than Win 7 users, so I'm hopeful blackflag will continue that trend! Are you running Win 7 32 or 64?

Post

Unfortunately I'm still on crappy Vista 32. The problem only seems to happen when exiting the 3d spectrograph and not the other analyzer modes.

Edit: My video card is an NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT if that helps at all.

Could be related to the GPU as well.
Just a wild stab in the dark here.

Hey,

Dave just called me on his way to bed, can you send crash reports to contact@dmgaudio.com? Nobody that's reported the behaviour has sent any crash logs in, so Dave hasn't had any solid clues yet as to what's happening.

Thanks a lot for your help!

...yes, or the drivers. Still, Vista and 7 are close enough that there still seems to be a fairly solid pattern of Vista/Win7 users not fairing as well as everyone else, so I expect that's what will grab our attention for investigation tomorrow.

Night people, thanks again for helping us tighten up!

I'm sorry man! I think a fair few of us have felt your pain.

That sounds consistent with the other reports.

Who knows, but thanks a lot for the information any of it really could be key so it's all valuable. Those crash reports would be really helpful, they could be the difference between Dave sleeping tomorrow night or not. :D

Dave and Krzysztof,

Thanks for this excellent plugin. I'll be picking it up before the trial ends.

I might have found a bug. Logic 10.0.7 on 10.9.4, both AU (native in Logic) and VST in Patchwork. If I load loudness history in the top with the loudness meters on the bottom, the lines used to draw the meters go from thin to thick. If I swap to where the history is on the bottom, the meters are fine.

The thick white history line doesn't seem to match the screenshot in the manual, so maybe the issue is there?
