Another one departed. RIP

One of only a handful of white artists whose playing encapsulated the emotion and feeling of the blues.

He was a huge part of my youth. Still Alive and Well (ironically) is always on EVERY playlist I've ever made and is still in heavy rotation on my iTunes.

All his blues work, along with the more pop stuff, and the collaborations with Edgar, make up a huge chunk of my life's soundtrack.

He was the real deal. And he will, of course, be missed.

I saw the "Johnny Winter 'And'" band with Derringer in the early `70s and they were great. I remember Johnny`s bottleneck tearing it up and Derringer`s English rock trick-leads the best i`ve ever heard.
Also saw Johnny and Edger at the 'Atlantic City Pop Festival' 1969.

At that time, nobody rocked like Johnny Winter and Rick Derringer.
Sad to see it all end. :(
....................Don`t blame me for 'The Roots', I just live here. :x

Sorry to see he's gone. What a blues monster he was.

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

True, although when you start writing the names down it was quite a list. I think that period featured the breakthrough of blues guitarists who but for the coming together of the crazy late 1960s and the proselytizing of some British musicians and American musicologists, might have mostly gone unnoticed.
Winter caught his biggest break in December 1968, when Mike Bloomfield, whom he met and jammed with in Chicago, invited him to sing and play a song during a Bloomfield and Al Kooper concert at the Fillmore East in New York. As it happened, representatives of Columbia Records (which had released the Top Ten Bloomfield/Kooper/Stills Super Session album) were at the concert. Winter played and sang B.B. King's "It's My Own Fault" to loud applause and, within a few days, was signed to what was reportedly the largest advance in the history of the recording industry at that time—$600,000.
One thing that was true of many of those guys is that they often reminded everyone of the "tradition" including the great blues artists of the past who were mostly forgotten.

Well, at least he made it to 70 unlike Alvin Lee who passed away last year at 68. Who remains, Elvin Bishop? So it goes...

Every so often I get a Johnny Winter fit; but it's mainly those first 3 or 4 albums. He was berzerk nuts guitar then. First song I heard by Johnny Winter:

And he could do country.
