Hi all, well Brian, I said I'd try a Bluegrass style but thought Bassline was not quite the right vehicle ... but .. here it is, short but sweet.

DAW: Reaper (yee haw)

Tal Bassline --- 14
Classic Reverb ---10
Epicverb --- 3
ReaComp --- 6
BootEQ Mk 2 - 1
Classic Limiter - 1

I might still add some voice-like "yee hahs" at appropriate points - need to try and see if I can simulate formant type stuff first. I also think it starts to seem a little "thin" at the first verse, SC does seem to squash out dynamics - not sure what to do yet ... perhaps nothing?

Any comments welcome as I still feel a newbie here, and maybe this is a bit of a sacreligious use of Bassline - but I did use it's KICK!

Unexpected and very nicely done, sacrelige is essential... yee-haahh

Sounds good already. No one would have believed, in the last years of the 20th century, that an SH-101 would turn out to be the perfect bluegrass instrument! :P Anyway, if you really think the "dynamics" are "thin", I suspect that Variety of Sound has a plugin just for you! Perhaps something from the Thrillseeker line?

My first OSC! I really enjoyed this. I've been looking at this contest for a while. Finally a synth I own and love. Win or lose, a lot of fun, and I look forward to doing this again.

Thanks Brian, glad you liked it. The hardest part really was to separate all those tracks out where there was polyphony and create new tracks and then route 'em altogether again to be able to place the chords in the right stereo space. ... a right PITA for the chords :( But the hard work paid off. And of course, dragging out the right sounds from the synth was fun.

Still thinking about the yeehaws

Thanks Richard. I seek to surprise - and I bet have have done so this time ... cheese and bluez before, but this time maybe I have gone too far for a "dance synth" :hihi: but ... then maybe something very different can catch ye olde country ears - at least it's not too long!!! Very pleased with the break, the kick comes through nicely as does the bass ... the perc is meant to be like a washboard played manically by some critter in old jeans, scruffy hair and beard, stomping his left foot to the beat - does that conjure up the right image for this track???

Anyways, thanks again, glad you liked it. Poor old SH-101, it'll never recover 8)

Cheers,

Rob

Hi, and welcome to OSC! And I really enjoyed your entry; right up my alley. :)

I uploaded some Tal-bassline drum/percussion patches here http://www.kvraudio.com/product/tal_bas ... /downloads

Just incase I don't have time this month. Feel free to use if you like them or do whatever you need with them, obviously need EQ and FX to taste etc.

Was used in a few test I did here
https://soundcloud.com/chilled-panda/sets/tal-bassline

The free version of TAL-bassline is fricking awesome :hyper:
Gonna buy the paid version once the comp is done.

Mixed feelings about that synth, it sounds like - most people seem to either love it or hate it. :)
It's a bit limited for what I want to do, but sounds decent.

Yeah, pretty much like marmite. It's very limited, but should be able to coax some nice sounds, think the way to go is probably switch on a sequencer and record the param tweaking live jam and hope for happy coincidences  , then cut, paste and arrange the recorded animation etc.

It is limited, but you can coax some decent sounds from it ... so you, as a king of layering, you should be able to get what you want :-) For me, the PITA was the fact that it was monophonic, and so when I wanted chords, it was a matter of placing each note in the chord stack on a different instance of Bassline, and then routing those tracks together and applying the FX to that track (REAPER-wise) to keep consistent processing for the full chord (makes sense, but a pain to do, but the results are OK, I think). This process was a little easier using filters in Sibelius to create the new midi tracks to make the chords, so I didn't have to do too much "manual" work - that's what computers are for eh?

Looking forward to hearing your entry - I suspect we'll have a last minute rush again.

Rob (aka DoctorBob).

Yes, there's an easier thing to do with reaper, though: you just need N+2 tracks, where N is your polyphony:
* Create a group track <-- put your patch fx here
* Add N tracks under it, each with separate instances of bassline and the same-ish patch
* Add 1 track under that same group track to play MIDI on
** On this track, add piz midiPolyphony, set it to N poly, then route it to each of the N bassline tracks, with each routing, select a different MIDI channel 1 through N instead of all

Done! :)

Unfortunately, I'm using Bigwig this month and it filters all midi to channel 1, so I can't use that trick... *sigh*.

We shall see... hopefully I'll be done in the next few days, something different from me this time, probably.

Aha ... piz midiPolyphony is the key - missed that one in my travels ... many thanks, will save me much time
in the future ...

Now then, back to your track.
