SampleTank SampleTank 3

Post

I'm running Sonar X3e 64-bit, when I make a new project, add VST3 Sampletank3 load any instrument (doesn't seem to matter) and then save the project (no midi notes, just two empty tracks) and then try and reload it, Sonar crashes deep in Sampletank3.vpa. If I make a new empty project, add Sampletank3 (and a MIDI source track) but don't load any instruments that project seems to reload ok. But load an instrument, leave the Sampletank 3 UI up (or not) and save and it will crashes on reload. Anyone else having problems reloading Sonar projects with Sampletank 3 inserted in the synth rack?

The sound installers are doing something that sets off the windows compatibility assistant (This app appeared to not run correctly should I fix it) when you exit. Most likely trying to write to a registry entry that's protected maybe. Might be fixable if they would add a Windows compatibility section to the exe manifests. Doesn't look like anyone bothered testing that. They have manifests but they are setup to run as invoker have no compatibility sections.

Wish the browser window was larger/resizeable. It's still way, way too small. The whole window is still way too small in general.

The search strips all the folder/path info which makes it really less useful. Would have been nicer if it left the tree structure for just the instruments that matched the search (and fully expanded all the folders by default).

The instrument browser could also use some support for the arrow keys to expand/collapse folders. Very painful scrolling back up to close a folder with a lot of instruments in it (imported stuff from Sampletank 2). Doesn't seem to support the keyboard really at all, which is bad.

The importing went ok. I was able to bring all my old ST2 instruments in without too much pain.

OK. This is very frustrating and there doesn't seem to be any official instruction on how to load the sounds. I've tried this both in standalone and plugin mode.

Here's what I did: I created a folder on my harddrive and labelled it "Sampletank 3 sounds." I unpacked all 8 zips into it.

Now, in Sampletank 3, I'm looking for a button to import the sounds and all there is is the "legacy import."
I don't see anything else. And when I try it, and load in the destination folder, nothing happens.

Can someone point me to an easy step by step on this please?

Thanks

Click on the gear icon (settings) in the upper right, and you can set the path ST3 will use to locate the library. The ST3 library doesn't need imported, you just have to tell the program where to find it. I don't have the samples installed yet, but the interface works fine for me. I may try importing my older content while I wait for the new stuff to download.

SampleTank 3's eight sound library zips don't need to be imported. There's an installer in each that you run (yes, I've noted to the team that a single installer would have been great already) and then you can point SampleTank 3 to the destination you chose if it isn't set to it already once you open ST3.

Post

So you have to run each of the installers for each of the eight sound folders?

I've already run a couple of them, but I still don't see any sounds in Sampletank3. Is there something else I'm supposed to be doing?

This is quite embarrassing that I have to ask. I'm far from a newbie, but I just can't seem to get going here.

Thanks

Ok, first thing i noticed IK, well done with the download servers, it went very fast, all libraries in less then hour ;)

Im checking now the libraries for like half hour, and i must say the pianos that are in ST3 are one of the most natural sounding ive ever heard!!! that makes upgrade price 79eu alone worth for that (for me).

More on my Cakewalk Sonar X3 project load problem. Seems to only be a problem for the VST3 version of Sampletank 3. If I use the VST2 version the project saves and re-loads just fine. Sampletank 3 is the first VST3 instrument I have, all the rest have been effects. I've sent a crash dump onto Cakewalk. But since the crash happens inside Sampletank I doubt they will do much with it.

On the PC the sound installers each have their own exe installers. So you should unzip them in your download directory, then run them. Point the first one at a directory where you want to save the Sampletank 3 library. The 2-8 zip's will pick that directory up, so you really only have to instruct the first one. At the end of each install you will get a message from Windows that the app might not have ran right, you can just ignore that.

When you have ran all 8 installers, start Sampletank 3 stand-alone and it will index the sounds. Mine picked up the directory I used with the first installer, didn't even have to configure it.

I unzipped each of the 8 sound installers one at a time, ran the install, then deleted the unzipped directory otherwise you need a lot of disc space for the zips+the unzipped copies+the copy in the place you are installing the Sampletank sounds.

Has anyone gotten the standalone version to launch?
I got mine to launch at first just after install, but when I went to change the device from Windows to ASIO, it crashed. I haven't been able to launch the standalone since, it continues to crash whenever I try to launch and never opens. However, it seems to work well as a VST in my DAW (Reaper). I'm looking more into it and will post when I have more details.

Chances are then it's just the VST3 of STank3.
Iris and U-He VST3 synths works well under VST3 for me in SonarX3e (x64),

I imported Sonik Synth 2, and the sounds from Sampletank 1 Free, and the ones I tried out worked fine. Now it's time to go to bed. I'll play with ST3 more tomorrow, but so far I haven't had any problems.

LOL to "STANK."

I had to skip the intro deal because of budget... hope for a free or cheaper stank3 player for my stank2 libraries.

Honestly, I don't need another 33GB of samples currently, no matter how good they are... glad it's released, though.

We do have ALL the t-racks.
