OK. Got the crash too. Unfortunately it only happens in the release build, and looks quite random. I'm 99% sure it happens when switching to a preset that uses external wavs, though. I need to find out which one...

Edit - I think I nailed it, together with the problem with bad sounding presets :-) Check your PM, I've send a few of you a link to the corrected version. It'll go public in a few days, as I wouldn't want to release a build worse than the previous one

you de man, Tick
you de man

thanks for the great and incredibly fast response
wish i could debug problems that fast
side by side I can't tell the difference in any presets I tried.

i never got that crash and don't expect to. I switched from Alaska preset to a bunch of other while playing and worked fine so far

great work

good things:
Sounds great as always.

Oscillator drag & drop is a BIG plus.

Seems like drag points on envelopes are easier to hit. Much friendlier than 1.0.

I really like the new patch management scheme.

New additive editor is a big improvement over the old one.

less good things:
Hard to trace FM relationships in mod matrix without a grid.

Text readability on buttons in new skin isn't good.

Position of sliders in new skin is ambiguous. 3 dimensionality isn't very convincing.

Dragging within the additive editor behaves unintuitively. If I drag up a partial and then mouse left or right I can't pull up similar values for neighboring partials. It just behaves oddly.

Overall I like all the new features a lot and like the skin less than the 1.0 version but it's definitely a big positive step.

Having had a chance to play around with FM7 a lot more after buying Komplete 2 I feel like the FM part of FM7 is so much easier to use than Rhino's at this point that I don't even mess with the FM stuff in Rhino. Rhino's got enough other stuff in it to make it worthwhile anyway.

Hi Tick,
I just have an idea for my MIDI-CC problem: Today it's the other way round, it works in Rhino2 bot not in Rhino1 anymore. Perhaps there is a mismatch with the parallel installation in two folders.

So would it be a good idea, if I remove the Rhino1 folder and install Rhino2 into a new folder with the same old name, rename the .dll back to the old name, that older projects will find Rhino2 with the old name and load the old preset? Confusing, I know! :?:

Btw I also would like to see a grid in the matrix!

Hey Tick

Thanks for the quick fix SP1.

The sound is just perfect now 8) Great :) :) :)

I've not had any crash when changing presets - so here I can't be of much help.

All the best
Bo

I really like Rhino 2

I've been trying to break SP1 for the last couple of hours and can't.She's working perfectly here.No crash during patch change.Tried importing DX7 sysex, patch programming from scratch, sequencing in both FL Studio and Orion Platinum etc and not a hitch.I'll keep working with her for a while longer today and report back any news but as of right now I can't find anything wrong.Would still like a bit more volume but I can live with it as is. :D

Hi Tick,
my problem is solved. There was a strange thing with the host.
SORRY!

Post

Folks,

Since everybody seems happy with it, the SP1 for the Rhino 2 prerelease is now available. This fixes:
- the random crashes when switching presets
- the difference in sound with the older versions
- the corruption of some presets
- the collision of synth ID when used together with the older version

The SP1 zip contains the .exe and .dll files, that replace the Rhino2 ones.

Enjoy,
'Tick

PS. If you've downloaded SP1 yesterday for testing purposes please grab it again, as this one includes the fix for synth ID's collisions.

DirectiXer is happy with 1.09 and 2 now :D

you know, i think I liked the sound of the first prerelease better - less 'metallic' somehow - not a criticism, just trying to find a word to describe the difference.....

Post

The first prerelease had all FM levels divided by 2. So it's quite easy to get that sound, just lower everything in the FM matrix if the FM scaling is set to linear. If it isn't, you can lower the level of each oscillator level env, and increase the main output level.

Tick, the SP does it for me, I did not yet test 100% of all parameters but after some hours of playing and editing I didn´t have any crash or abnormal CPU spike. Also in R2 the preset management is wondeful, thanx for that.

Thanks. Any suggestions for making the preset management part even better are welcome (how about a search in the preset comments ? or keywords ?)

Drag and drop between banks?

As I already mentioned earlier, i'd find it useful if a preset folder (e.g. Bass) unfolds automatically if you hold a dragged preset over it, so you can see the sub folders (similar to the windows explorer).
