I'm coming over to see my star spangled cousins in mid September and am hoping to pick up some Sennheiser MM550X's for relatively cheap. Cheaper than the £250 they are here anyway.

I've done the obligatory Google and found them on Best-Buy for a whopping $460 (£270).

Can anybody recommend somewhere please? I'm happy to drive several hours (ie, 12 each way) due to the work car :D Or failing that, can potentially have them delivered to the hotel as I'm there for a solid two weeks.

Ask your friend if a Guitar Center is near. We have one in Austin. It is a wonderland.

Turns out one is only a mile away from the hotel :hyper:

Now, suggestions on how I can pass a Maschine and headphones off as work expenses? :D

Which model is that anyway? Given the price range, are you sure you stated the correct name?

I would buy Sennheiser stuff in Europe, in the US it is probably more expensive because it is imported...

100% correct.

They're wireless noise-cancelling jobbies.
Expensive I know, but I use my current cheapo wireless ones constantly and I need something better for flights. Other than that, a way to encourage parents to store their kids in the hold but I can't see that happening shortly.

Also check out some of the restaurants on the Harbor, and if you're in the South End, go to Mike's Pastry or even some of the small Italian restaurants around the same area.

Also, a good way to see Boston is go on one of the Duck tours: http://www.bostonducktours.com. A friend of mine drives one of them, so if the driver is a big guy with a beard called Mike, give him a good tip! :D

Fantastic tips. Thanks mate. I have a budget of £100 a day for food :D

Right, so when I said 100% correct I actually meant 100% incorrect

The model is MM550X

Knew there was an X in there somewhere.

That makes sense now :) They cost 250 euros in Germany, that is about 200 pounds or 335 dollars.

That's enough to eat at really good places every day. Do you have to submit receipts? If you do, the best thing about restaurants in the US is that they usually give you two receipts - one with the breakdown of the food and the other with just the total - if you want to splurge on a few beers, you can generally get the receipt from a restaurant that your company will assume is food, even if it's beer.

Also, strip joints that serve food generally give you a receipt that's not itemized, which is something I know a lot of people who have traveled here have taken advantage of. Just saying... :hihi:

But as a fellow Brit by birth, got to tell you that you should be giving decent tips to whoever waits your table. There's essentially no minimum wage for waiting staff and they survive off tips. 15% is normal, and you should go to 20% if they did a good job.

That's them then. Lots of money... Worth it long run, just a mega hit up front :(

More great advice. Thanks.

Even though I do have that budget I never come anywhere near to spending it. I'm the cheapest business traveller ever. Give me the choice between some mega Michelin star restaurant or the In-and-out Burger I've seen on movies/TV I almost always choose the latter.

Tips is always something that confuses me. It's good to have the rule of 20% now; thanks for that.

Oh and thanks for the strip club knowledge. Don't think I'll risk that though ;)
