Blue Days – Heavily compressed on the lower end and hi end, which made me feel as if the melodies were snowed under a bit and the underbelly bass is missing imo. A rather open ending which made me feel there was more to be gotten out of this one. PS: Updated version??????
Bastien – the link provided on the radio-page from Markleford is still non-working.
Jtxx000 – This unfortunately is not a direct link. I went to acidplanet and listened to it there though, but the rules require a direct link. Anyhow; this is quite cool that this is only done with guitars
. You said you used e-phonics lo-fi which is hearable, but I could not skip the impression (although AP doesn’t state it) that the kbs rate has been kept low too. There is a digital lofi feel about this that sounds a bit awkward imo. Do carry on though as its interesting to see what can be done without synths, yet sounding synthy.
Patrick9 – For some odd reason I feel having reviewed and heard this before, but alas I have nothing to stave it on. It seems that the bass in the beginning is having a hard time getting through smoothly as its near distorting there. I really enjoy the idea though of lyrics (and these were cool) to this theme; giving this quite the interesting twist. The more I am listening to this the more it grows on me. There is something special about this track, but I just cannot put my finger on it.
Pepelogu – First off welcome to KvR and welcome to the monthly contests. There’s quite the bit of drama in your tune which is really good. Great progression and build in atmosphere. There was just a tad too much energy on the bell-sounds causing it to distort a little on a few hits in the beginning.
Scuzzphut – Wow! This one shifts through time from ambienesque atmospheres to a driving almost disco’ish 4/4 stomp to the floor track. Great controls on the sounds here that are just a treat to listen to and disect. I somehow had hoped for a stronger ending though somehow. Still a top tune.
Glooper – Magnum goes sci-fi! Heh, sorry bout that, but I got that initial feel of this due to the guitars played in here. All in all this does certainly work as a great angle for a movie to start with. It somehow makes me want to hear the full soundtrack. I did feel the vocals to be snowed under a bit in the verses. The chorus works perfect though.
Wopelka – God how I loved some of the sounds that came forth in this track; that raspy high sound that moves through space is just beautiful. Depth and great mixing in this Phil and if I didn’t know any better I would have thought it was normal entering the monthly challenges
Mo Verdigast – Heh; sure why not remake Dr. Who again. This is weirdness though with the samples used to find itself in a quite enjoyable groove after 1 min. I wasn’t to keen on the various samples as some of them just came in so loud that they distracted rather then add.
Thomasc_dk – I always look forward to your groundbreaking tries to the given theme and yet again you present a massive tune. Top production as always with way more melodic build then your usual glitchy and inventive tunes. Wall of sound that just pumps through the monitors here, but never muddy. Loved the guitar in this one
Markleford – Great filtered melody going on here. Ha, and there’s that beautiful sounding brass again. This has got to be the best entry from you I have heard. Very complete and varying and most of all an extremely good production with that brass-flavor.
Rsmus7 – The guitars in here were so extremely warm and sensitive that in comparison to the imo rather thin lead sound brought a bit of a rocky balance. Some good background sounds and scapes happening. Which I feel with a more richer and warmer lead would have made a killer combo.

Dorx – There’s some beautiful sequences and sounds going on in here, which I feel could have used a tad better mixing. Especially the guitars are very good, but I feel the strings to be a bit detached from the rest somehow. A bit more variation on the drums would have upped this tune quite a bit as I feel it to be a bit static.
Col G. – there is something wrong with the link; it won’t play here
Plunge – One heck of a track mr. Plunge that moves and drives and pushes. The FX’ed vox at times made me think of Alvin in space. Personally I cannot really see the picture of a sci-fi movie attached with this kind of music; unless its like Space Quest. Keep plunging
Grillo – another refusing link
Earth Tones – Great background story to some fine music as well. Some swell and cool textures happening in here with a lot of forward pushing grooves. I think the arrangement of this one is very strong and tight.
Mystahr – I try; I try
Farlukar – Hmmmmm, the varying velocity on the sorta digital snare turned me off a bit; in a sense it is tiring my ears a bit. I must say though that the whole of this does some strange things and creates for quite the glitchy phased sound. I must say though that I loved that pad sound which this starts with... btw welcome to KvR
Joenco – and a welcome to KvR and the contests to you too. This one follows up nicely to the previous track. Again there’s some cool things happening here, even though I feel that this is more a texture tune than an actual theme song to a movie. Good work nonetheless
Pheeleep – Your hands and fingers may have been hurting but I think you delivered quite the good track allready. Some great horns going on in this track. The opening was very strong and powerfull which I in a way regretted to have lost some of that power throughout the tune.
Blaster78 – that link still is not working quite right for streaming. Got it downloaded anyhow: This sounds pretty darn good allready Steve. Mixed quite well, only missing some power and drive. The ending could have been a bit more dramatic, as opposed to the fade out, but that is only a small nit.
Tancos – What a strange yet interesting mellee of sounds and sequences. Starting off as a medieval tune of folkish people in outer space. It’s almost like listening to a 5 track in one tune, leaving for quite the visual interpretation of this entry. I loved that bass stab in the beginning. This track certainly takes me places

Marmstrong – Loving how this track opens with the bells and choirs giving a spacious feel from the start. This is a high-moody tune with a lot of room for visual interpretation although for a theme to a movie maybe a bit too quiet and empty.
You TM – Your production quality everytime again keeps treating my ears with some awesome sounds and feels. I want to see the movie right now; and where can I buy the soundtrack?
Secondskin – Such a strange notion my ears are getting listening to the distortion going on at times as if listening to this on a dirty tapehead from a deck. Mostly on the drums this is happening. Other then that you layed out quite the great tune to the contest at hand. Very smooth arrangement and melodies. A bit more variation on the percussion though would have improved this only more.
Nikp2000 – And another welcome to KvR here. I must admit that the mixing and balance of this felt off and just not working where the tubile came across as a bit thin and too digital. The idea behind this though is quite good and I hope you’ll climb aboard the contests more often. They’re quite a good way of learning and improving on skills.
Bitstream – I quite enjoy the mood and setting for this track. So be it a small Sunday ditty; I think the idea behind this is pretty darn good and very befitting to the theme. No real hook in here, but a great atmosphere. (and yeah the mixing could’ve been better )
Amused – what a joy and treat seeing your name in the contest area. Just one plugin; wow! You got yourself a pretty darn good patch with a lot of versatility that is just a treat to listen to. Oddly my ears never got the interpretation though of it being just one patch. Great job on that.
T-William – (last time; I swear ) Man you sure did deliver quite the intriguing tune with some heavy ass guitars.... The story in and behind the track is hilarious and execution (or persecution) is even better
Softegg – Welcome to KvR and the contests.... hmmmm, just this one post from you yet, but feel free to join in any time. The track is a top-production in a wall of atmospheres being build with some great sounding timpani’s. Good sounds alltogether though where that alarm-lead was a great touch. A bigger climax imo would have topped this off (a big crash of sound or something like that).
Emerald Tablet – Good to see you entering this month again. And you are singing again
. Dang you open your mouth and I just start lighting up. Magic in this one Remco, same goes for you; this makes me want to hear the soundtrack.
Carrieres – A most regretful 160 kbs mp3 that sounds incredibly good. I just love how that vox was mixed into this tune, beyond wordly recognition (so this is how aliens talk). Ahhhh shucks yeah, the woosynth
Ahriakin – I just loved this soothing and lazy groove with some excellent percussion that could have used more variation to follow the various themes the melodies make. Too short and I feel more can be done with this, do continue building on this one... One other thing it might do is open my wallet for the z3ta. Great sounds here.
Sdunn1110 – This is just something that happens more as a visual in front of my eyes rather then a theme to a movie. I feel this more like the anticipation toward a theme.... That final bit is just superbly original. It took a bit before realizing I wasn’t downloading a thing
7zark7 – Glad you could make it in the knick of time. I just loved the sound treatment in this one. Some very weird but greatly fx’ed sounds going on and those vox-samples do something really cool in this track. Cool groove going on; yeah I can see a series with this maybe more then a movie. I would not have been surprised to hear a change to DnB tempo in the percussion for some climaxing; just a thought there as it isn’t really missing in here.

thanks very much mate, the weak ending is cos it's actually 2.15 long and try as i might i couldn't cut any of the bits short (apart from the end) so i just faded out at 1.55
i guess i need some practice before i begin my new career as a soundtrack writer
the link is the bane of my life, it's stuck on the ftp site of a website i'm doing some work on (not mine - a clients ) so i think that's why theres a few problems.
mark - yours is great, i really like the "wibbly" bass line and the tune builds very nicely. your ending also seems a little abrupt (i guess 2mins isn't always enough ) as always, great sounds

Thanks a lot, it was a challenge to learn all the parts, arrange the song and figure out how to keep it from sounding GMish. I don't have formal musical training which is why I always feel suspect offering my criticisms and observations around here. But I think after listening to the original music 7919 times it's fair to say that I learned something valuable from this exercise. Anyway you can get the music and DVD's of UFO. I recommend renting or borrowing first. Fortunately, there is a website where you can download the original music as well as sound effects and pictures and stuff...
FWIW: The intro to my version started out as the End Title Theme (also available from that website) which is very abstract and spooky. In editing, I rearranged it to the front and then cut out a lot of it to speed up the pacing. In the final version I doubt it's recognizable, but the original is a cool piece of music worth hearing.

Do you really see the reviewers as folks who think they know better than the others? I review because I love to get feedback on my music. Hopefully folks will say, "Oh, here's a comment from Plunge. Hearing his tracks, I can sort of get an idea of where he's coming from." No no! That's not what I meant at all! I don't see the reviewers as people who think they know better. I love to get feedback too. That's the real point of posting your work isn't it? That's why I got involved here. This is my twelfth month of entering - most of those months I actively wrote detailed reviews for everyone and generally littered the Gossip thread with my blather. Lately it's been harder to keep up because of work and stuff but I still download and listen to every song repeatedly every day. (They're all on my iPod here at work!) I also keep a collection of everyone's stuff so when I do write reviews I can listen to other pieces they wrote and compare. This is the first month I have not been able to hear all the songs and it really bothers me to vote without hearing everything so I'm waiting 'till the last possible minute or at least until jtxx000 and grillo respond.
