Does anybody know if 1.5 contains a *real* looper (in the sample editor, not in the project thingy)?

What do you mean by "not in the project thingy"?
Here's a manual quote...is this what you're asking(minus the last bit)?
Working with loops is typically a three step process, in which you select part of a waveform, specify its properties in Edit View, and then use the resulting loop in compositions in Multitrack View
...and the permanent properties being loop, one shot, number of beats, tempo, key, find nearest, and stretch method...

Post

I mean a *graphical* way of setting the loop start and loop end and being able to hear that loop from within the sample-editor.

I want to use Audition as a replacement for Wavelab (which gets MUCH too bloated for my taste).

Anybody got a good recommedation for a simple, but powerful sample editor?

Cheers,
Mike

what about Audacity? Can't beat the price tag on that one..

Post

Audacity can't loop at all...

Post

I thought the loop points were copied over to that weird 'sampler' dialog box in Audition (at work, don't have it to hand). It not ideal, but not totally bad...

Post

OK, let me explain what I want:

I want to edit the loop graphicaly, zoom up to 1/64 sample (or even closer) and and repeat the loop over and over to find perfect loops etc.

A real old school sample-editor. Why can't Audition (which was CoolEdit) provide that functionality? Didn't CoolEdit contain it already? Was it kicked out afterwards? To what end?

Post

yes that's possible. just click the loop-button in the transport-control-section.

Post

And then you can edit the loop points graphicaly for the current sample and save the loop points as markers in e.g. an AIF file?

Is this a new feature in 1.5? I bought 1.0 (I should have downloaded the demo first) and I can guarantee you that 1.0 does not have a sample-loop editor of any kind.

view-> wave properties
sampler tab
click add sampler loop

I guess there are no guarantees

Audacity can play loops (shift+click), but i don't know if it can save loop points.
The most easy to use loop editor i found is the free TWE from Yamaha:

yes. the markers are called cues in audition. no new feature in 1.5. all this stuff is available in 1.0 ...

SoundForge will do what you want, but if you are *just* interested in editing loops this might be overkill.

Good editor none the less.

Sigh... OK, load in any WAV or AIF file (which has a loop embeded into it) into Audition. Do you see[/b] the loop? No? Damn... Do you hear the loop? No? Damn... Can you actually switch Audition into loop mode, so the sample is played from the very start to the loopend and then restarting at loopstart? No? Damn...

Guys, I might overlooked something here or there, but trust me, I have looked very closely because I wanted to use a simpler tool than Wavelab, but Audition is simply not useable in the context of creating multi-samples for samplers. It seems it was not designed with this kind of functionality in mind. Very strange I think, cause CoolEdit was applauded at it's time of being "the" sample editor. I can't see why that was if that kind of most basic functionality is missing. Nowadays every program having in the slightest to do with audio wants to be a sequencer/tracker and plays back time stretched samples. Guess I have to use Wavelab or even HALion to do the most basic things...

Cheers,
Mike
