I am at my end...
I have a P4 w/ asus P4P800delux mobo + 2 sata hds 1gig ram
motu 1224

I'm using sx2 and everything is fine except for recording.
There are these very subtle clicks when I record audio. I don't know what to do. I've turned off HT, I've raised the latency to 2048. I've done all the tweeks on that website.

Is it possible that my soundcard is bad? I realize its about 6 yrs old and my computers pretty up to date... I don't know what to do, I just want it to work and if I have to buy a new soundcard fine.

Is there something I'm overlooking?

I had the same problem with those onboard sound-cards, but it was on the audio-output.

The first thing you may want to do, is ask for a friend to borrow his sound-card to test with your PC.

That's all I can think right now... but I'm not an expert, let's see if others join the debate.

I'm not familiar with serial ata drives.. but if they are like ultra ata ("regular") drives then check to make sure they are running at ultra DMA mode 5 or possibly higher.

I believe windows xp can switch them to a lower setting automatically if it senses a problem w/o it giving warning..

Like VitaminD suggested, it's probably the SATA hard drives dude, or to be more precise, the SATA controllers.
That is the price you pay for being on the bleeding edge.

Test the puter with normal EIDE drives to see if the prob goes away.

Long time ago now, but I used to get very annoying random subtle clicks when recording -- the culprit was a midiman 2x2 USB midi box. Not what I'd have thought would interfere with the audio, but it was fine as soon as I disconnected it. I now use an Edirol UM-880 box (using USB2 this time) which works fine. So maybe check/disconnect what midi you have that might be interfering.

Can't say much, but there seem to be problems with some older MOTU cards.
So, my advice would be: Make sure to test it with ALL buffer settings.

A friend of mine (also using an older MOTU along with a topmodern PC) can only use 256 samples when working with ASIO drivers and has to switch to 2048 in order to get no crackles when playing back DVDs.
No joke, higher settings (in ASIO mode, which should be more challenging) lead to all sorts of crackles and what not, while lower settings than 2048 will just mess up all DVD playback (which shouldn't be a big deal at all, soundcardwise, he's just using a stereo out for DVDs).
