My father uses a 2442, and apart from the FX channel that is really really noisy, the rest is usable...

TechnoWeeniePas, the markup is not directly proportional to the price of the item. Music stores have a tremendous ammount of flexability over what prices they charge. I paid over $200 markup on a guitar that would be about $80 at cost. I paid about $50 markup on an amp that would be $1350 or so at cost.
The salesman was really trying to push a Fender down my throat despite the fact that I wanted a heavy rock sound as opposed to a lighter Fender-ish sound. He insisted that this Fender was as heavy as it gets and that I'd be crazy not to buy it. I found out later that the store was in a competition to see who could sell the most Fenders, and that this guitar is the worst purchase I ever made. The guy who sold it to me has appologized many times over (As we work together now) but I have no faith in salesman anymore, despite the fact that I am a salesman.

Same here... I used to have a Spirit Folio Lite, but I'm much happier with my 1604A. I've also got the Eurorack Pro which is a 16 channel mixer in a 1U rack space!Manc Chris wrote:I use a 1604A. No noticeable noise at all.

I much agree...I was just stating that in my experience the mackies (and a few others) have had higher markups than the low priced mixers like Behringers. I was not trying to say that it was that way with every item or every place. I agree...Im also not a big fan of sales people...high or low markup they want you to walk out with SOMETHING...even a low price sale is a sale. I prefer to look at reviews, newsgroups, etc online and descide what items fit me best...then head to wherever I can try them out to make my final descision. When Ive made up my mind I head back home and mailorder it
Saves me a ton of $ being able to price hunt online.-

We use an MX 602 A for monitoring and for small
live-gigs.
We used to use it for recording.
The reason we dont now is that we have a channelstrip with compression, dee-essing etc, and has nothing to do with any noice in the 602; it sounds great!

I own a Mackie 1604vlz pro, and I bought it used for a good price.
That time I compared Behringer and Mackie, the overall sound of the Mackie and the use of the EQ on the Mackie sounded much better for me. But it wouldn´t in any way justify the price gap.
If I hadn´t a chance to get the cheap Mackie, I surely had got a Behringer.
Maybe now the new Yamaha mixers of the MG series are competetive too, but I didn´t test them, they are cheap, I know.
Or the Phonic mixers, it is said that Phonic used to produce/develope some mixers for another company (M.....).
