Their updates have been getting more lackluster since RE's. 5 added kong, sampling, and more sequencing features. 6 added the entire new mixer and i think thats also when they incorporated record plus added RE support. 7 just added midi out, rex conversion, and the free audiomatic, and eventually destroyed compatability with RE's for 6.5 since 6 will no longer get the sdk updates

These 'free' RE's also bug me. They arent much of a feature since they are usually time limited. I upgraded my copy of reason after their free polar offer expired. So unless every user can get these 'free' upgrades whenever they get a new version, i dont really consider them a part of the upgrade. That would be like ableton saying you could only get the new audio-midi conversion functionality if you upgrade within a 30 day time period, otherwise thats another 100$ on top of a non-discounted upgrade price please

Here's a little more detailed description of the changes: http://createdigitalmusic.com/2014/08/r ... mp-models/ IMO, they're going into the right direction with updating the GUI to match nowadays' requirements. The transport bar looked really crowded and unclear in version 7.

Regarding drag and drop:

By the looks of that video, they have a device (i.e. a synth RE) that has it's own track and everything, they then drag and drop a Radical Keys RE preset over that device in the sequencer and it gets replaced with that preset with that Radical Keys device, keeping the actual note track, etc.

Now I don't have any experience of other DAW's, is it possible in other DAW's like that? It looked very nicely integrated (It's like if you would open the preset for Sylenth1 but browse to zebra instead and zebra would take Sylenth1's place in the sequencer) in that Reason 8 video anyway.

So does Logic - except you just need to click on the preset in the browser, you don't even need to drag it

I just want a bigger GUI for the Rack.

I've been pretty 'meh' about Reason since REs, but I guess they decided they couldn't sustain the old model they'd been using for upgrades and decided to charge for all new Rack devices and make upgrades for features only.

Pretty much every DAW I have ever used. It's more of a big deal in Reason I guess because I assume the new device also keeps all your crazy wiring you might have done?
Meh.

I've used reason since 2.0(over 10 years) and I've always supported their ethos and mindset with reason, personally I still love it but this version fails to impress me big time...I'm really dissapointed

the sequencer extras should have honestly been in the last update(7.1),am I really expected to pay for the drag and drop and to be able to click notes on and off ??wtf?

Every update up to version 7 has had new devices, there has always been new and exciting devices(Kong,Thor, midi out)...basically THERE HAS ALWAYS BEEN A GOOD REASON TO UPGRADE??

Disappointed user
live 11 / Arturia collection / many Softube plug ins / thats it

Gotta say that from 2.6 onward I've been wondering when they would let you drag instruments to the sequencer without going to the rack... that one thing alone was almost the "reason" I moved on. Since that is no longer a paradigm that must be adhered to there's a lot to like in Reason. Lot of cool stuff in there, it's just hard to forsake all those great plugins outside of their system... Definitely a great product though if you don't have a lot of stuff already.

Looking forward to see more info on the update and they might throw in a bonus when upgrading like they did with Reason 7.

I have paid more for other Daws in hope of bugfixes where some of the bugs still haven't been fixed and new where added and some more got repaired on the next paid update and so on ;)

Reason is stable as a rock here so no problems there but i would loved to have support for hyperthreading and use of my 4thcore in this update ;)

As it is now Reason only uses 3cores out of 4 with no hyperthreading at all (The one core that is not in use for plugins is used for running reason only).

I honestly think they are just trying to find new ways to milk reason..

This is coming from a long time reason user here who spent way too much money on their stuff

If I could get every Reason user on the PUF to learn how to use Logic and some good plugins, i imagine they would probably leave reason too..

I have logic and hate it. So I no longer use it, I can't bother with plugins either. I don't go to forums and bash them tho. Its not for me so I left it alone. Reason 8 is very welcome. Many users have been begging for an updated browser, well here it is. Some of us simply don't want to use Live, Logic etc.
KFish needs to answer a simple question. What is an outdated sound?

I'm allowed to voice my opinion after I spent nearly $1500 on buying reason, Refills & balance only to end up selling it all for a fairly substantial loss.
