Yeah, it really does seem that way. You can add my voice to the collective "meh" being heard around the internet today.V0RT3X wrote:I honestly think they are just trying to find new ways to milk reason.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way. I really want to still like Reason, it's one of the first programs I saw that got me interested in computer-based music. I, too was very disappointed in R7 and decided to wait for R8 to see what may come. After watching the video I just kept thinking...."and? what else? oh, that's it? bummer." I understand they're a company and have to make money, but I honestly feel yet again this upgrade isn't worth the asking price.damoog wrote:Every update up to version 7 has had new devices, there has always been new and exciting devices(Kong,Thor, midi out)...basically THERE HAS ALWAYS BEEN A GOOD REASON TO UPGRADE?? Disappointed user
I posted some time back on the features vs cost of previous Reason upgrades. It's pretty obvious the change in release style once Re's were released: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 7#p5740947
Those amps aren't really new: it looks like their license to distribute the Line 6 amps expired and they had to find a replacement for them. From the R8 FAQ:kmonkey wrote:or instance they are saying a word or two about new bass amp
I wouldn't expect any new FX or Instruments in R8. They'll want to charge you extra for those in the props store. Please Note: In order to support future product development, the Line 6 guitar and bass amp devices will no longer be available in the Reason rack by October 2016.

Or just try to make some money? I honestly doubt that the company heads are driving around in Ferraris.V0RT3X wrote:I honestly think they are just trying to find new ways to milk reason..

I like the brand new browser. Its about time text labels float above scroll bars (in the video @ 1:06 - 1:11). Now i can get back to 8 char file and preset naming, like the good Dos teaches us.

They've started to make money since the roll out of Re in 2012:chk071 wrote:Or just try to make some money? I honestly doubt that the company heads are driving around in Ferraris.

the most interesting line in my opinion is:
Code: Select all
2013-12
Årets resultat 10548It'll be interesting to see what that entry looks like for 2014-12.
Whether you like the new business model or not, it's clearly working for Props. Enough so that a few of the top investors in the company could buy a Ferrari if they chose to do so...

Im with others,
the amp upgrades are not interesting to me (and in 2016 will 'replace' line6, so its 2 in for 2 out)
the ui changes will be nice, but really just bring it up to date with other daws... and really its not been a big issue for me anyway.
it feels like a minor improvement, a catching up exercise , a .5 upgrade - could I live without, yes easily.
will we be 'forced' to upgrade for re compatibility? I hope not.
Im hoping there will be more features added before release, more substantial changes, I fear there won't, but who knows.
Perhaps they will 'sweeten' the upgrade pricing with some kind of 're' freebie/bundle, which they seem to like doing recently,
not ideal, but perhaps will make the price look a little more reasonable?

If they added PX7, Parsec, and Synchronous to that upgrade I'd buy right now.thetechnobear wrote:Perhaps they will 'sweeten' the upgrade pricing with some kind of 're' freebie/bundle, which they seem to like doing recently,

And Propellerhead's company heads in Ferraris? Maybe good Volvos.
Well, i don't know. But i can't imagine that they're doing extraordinary well atm as a company. It's a hard business, it's hard times, and you always have to think what you can do next to keep people motivated to buy. Because that's what counts, and keeps the company and its employees alive.

It's a fair point. If 2014 is as good or better than 2013 it will wipe out all that loss since 2010 and still have about $930,000 USD in the bank. I'd go back farther but I can't find earlier financial year information. As I said earlier I understand they are a company and need to make money to survive. I'm ok with that. I'm just not so happy with the current changes in their business model to get there.chk071 wrote:And the -1.6 million $ in the year before?bmrzycki wrote: That's net profit for the year in TKR (SEK in thousands).
