The earlier versions of Discovery / Pro were not that close to the Nords, but have you demoed the latest versions recently? I'd say they compare nicely now. I actually prefer the sound of Discovery to Corona.

Granted I have only used the demo, but I just wasn't very impressed. I found that it has nice sound sculpting abilities, but I could get past the digital sound. Just my opinion.

I like the digital sound of the different bit modes in Corona just like I like the digital sound of Bazille's FM stuff. I don't think Corona is trying to be Diva, instead it falls somewhere in between analog and digital, imo.

A strange coincidence, both Corona and Bazille have massive low ends

After spending more time with it, I'd say Corona's strength is definitely in hard and digital sounds, but softer, smoother material with a unique digital quality is possible via subtler settings and good use of the lowpass filters. This synth seems to have been marketed toward the mainstream EDM crowd, yet its character lends itself better (just my opinion) to either the hard side of EDM or other styles (Industrial, Dubstep, Trap, etc). Personally, I would buy Sylenth if you're looking for big supersaw patches and huge chord stabs, and let Corona fill the spaces that Sylenth can't.

Yeah, the "rough and dirty" part of corona seems to come from the higher end frequencies a bit more heavily than lower end using most of the bit modes. You are right about the low pass filters being the key to smoother sounds, I spend quite a bit of time playing around with the different low pass filters and shapes while sculpting a new patch. Don't forget the zero delay feedback filter mode, it works wonders for less subtle patches I find.

One fairly interesting thing about Corona is the phaser filters. I mean, from what I can tell it basically just behaves like a phaser for the most part not actually filtering any sound, but you can use it to make up for the lack of a built in phaser. Zero delay feedback phasers

. Another thing, the chorus effect can be made to sound like a flanger. I havn't been able to tune in the delay enough to sound like a reverb yet for most patches. So far the lack of a full FX rack isn't bothering me too much.

IMO some of the worst sounding digital synth. Not to mention that the GUI looks very amateurish.

The gui is not the best, but it's class for bass. Its low end is huge, cool arp too!

Lots of different filters that most synths don't have.

Corona certainly sounds nice. I already have Discovery Pro, this seems to have it's own character though. Not keen on the GUI though. Discovery Pro has different sizes which is nice, would be great if Corona had the same. A bit more colour would be good too. It is very plain at the moment.

The Corona gui seems much more colorful than the Discovery Pro one

But it is not the most ergonomic one out there...

How come that on the second video although the gui seems live (the limiter led's are moving), the knobs are not updated when a new patch is loaded?

Anyway, I like the sound quality (not so much most patches), it sounds juicy, alive, and well-balanced.
