All excellent choices, I'd put Dune 2 at the top of that list, I find it a bit more usable than Spire but sonically they're easily on par, if not better than Sylenth.4damind wrote:Spire, Dune2, Zebra, Massive, Ana (Sonic Academy),...arkmabat wrote:Care to name any? Not sure why people are so hung up on Sylenth, it was a great plug when it came out in 2007 but I don't see the appeal in todays market. Also it seems a bit harsh people diving into Sonic Academy about their product support when at least they make a 64bit version of their flagship synth, something Lennar Digital still haven't managed to achieve.

Dune 2 has a pretty nice sound to it.

If you need a 64bit Sylenth1 then pick up a copy of 32Lives as it works very well in logic and Live.

Because nothing sounds like it & it's very light on CPU.ausgeno wrote:

There are alternatives, some of the newer synths can do lots of extra things, they do sound great, but still, they're different.
All in all...why not?

I'm glad you like this selectionC-note wrote:samsam wrote:lol4damind wrote:Spire, Dune2, Zebra, Massive, Ana (Sonic Academy),...arkmabat wrote:Care to name any? I'd like to know...4damind wrote:Sylenth has his usage but we have today a lot more (and often better) options.
Spire is relatively new, the same with Dune2 but Massive is well known and is also used for this typical sounds in dozens of productions. Ana is a bit special, great features, focus goes a bit in the trance direction but the sound is more digital compared to Sylenth.
It depends of the sounds. For pluck sounds and stuff Sylenth is still a great option. For pads, layered sounds etc. Dune2 is not to beat. Massive has is own sound not only for dub step... Zebra is good for everything but sounds a bit polished and not so digital compared to Massive and the semi-modular concept allows different sounds, maybe that's why Hans Zimmer seems to be a great fan of Zebra for his scores.
I forgot Synthmaster

Sylenth is a digital synth... the supersaw sound (which is its main thing) is a digital creation... nothing analog sounding at all about Sylenth.4damind wrote:but the sound is more digital compared to Sylenth.

Dune2 walks all over Sylenth... Sylenth is weak in the low end and has a very limited featureset and does not even have PWM. Sylenth just happened to scratch the supersaw itch with very good timing.samsam wrote:Exactly. Great synths, not 'better' than Sylenth.
btw, I like Sylenth... but these days, it has been lapped!

Btw. Diva has a excellent supersaw emulation with the latest Diva and it's JP8080 emulation.pdxindy wrote:Sylenth is a digital synth... the supersaw sound (which is its main thing) is a digital creation... nothing analog sounding at all about Sylenth.4damind wrote:but the sound is more digital compared to Sylenth.

I think you'll find Sylenth is capable of a lot more than supersaws... It's still a great synth.pdxindy wrote:Dune2 walks all over Sylenth... Dune 2 is a CPU hog compared to Sylenth.pdxindy wrote: Dune2 walks all over Sylenth... Sylenth is weak in the low end and has a very limited featureset and does not even have PWM. Sylenth just happened to scratch the supersaw itch with very good timing.
I think it's (a bit) funny when ppl compare an old synth with the newest releases and act surprised if it's not on par featurewise or whatever. But on the other hand, not all ppl are willing to upgrade their system just to be able to use a certain plugin - if it (still) works, why change it?
"X" beats "Y" is a silly argument; what really counts is what work FOR YOU - be it the newest synth or a 10 years old plugin

I don't think so. What kind of patch are you comparing? A basic supersaw patch uses the same CPU on my machine. It's true that many Dune 2 patches use more CPU than your average Sylenth 1 patch but think about what they do, can you achieve the same sound in Sylenth 1 with less CPU or at all in one patch? I doubt it.idfpower wrote: Dune 2 is a CPU hog compared to Sylenth.

Dune 2 has a lot more modulation possibilities than Sylenth1, which can add to the CPU usage, depending on the preset.dentnile wrote:I don't think so. What kind of patch are you comparing? Also Dune 2 has Zero-Delay Feedback filters which can sound great, but also have more CPU usage.
