I am going to buy a sound card "Sound blaster Audigy 2"
record 24 bit / 96 khz
stereo 24 bit / 192 khz
is this good card or not for working in emaic logic audio?!
comments plz

Post

No, it really isn't. Why is pretty complicated, but it comes down to "it's got bad converters". They are good games cards, though.

Incidentally, it doesn't really work at 192kHz. This is one of the many complicated bits...

is also by creative, and much better for working with Logic.

please do not buy an audigy for audio, i'm sure many here will have the same comment.

get somthing from m-audio, terratec, or one of the new e-mu cards (i see they have added the 0404 to the site).

thats not really true. i doubt creative on their own could come up with such good cards (emu are really pretty much responsible for much of creatives sound card lineup since the awe32).

i think really, e-mu designed their new cards and used some of creatives driver architechture (as the dsp chip on the emu cards is very similar to the audigy one). oh, and emu used creatives factory's and buying power to get them to such a low cost.

if creative had any sense they would remove the "creative professional" label off of emu's stuff, i'm sure they would shift more units that way :D

Well, yes, but it's as much "by creative" as the audigy is. It's just creative's downmarket instincts have been held in check for once. :)

Now, if the next soundblaster used the new emu architecture, we could look forward to better sound in computer games...

Anyway, I want to see if anyone here reckons buying an Audigy is a smart move. :D

0404 looks like a killer deal.. And I just bought an audiophile. Oh well.

Post

0404 is a killer deal, but I reckon the 1212M is an even better one because of the better quality converters (put it this way, with a 1212M in your machine, you're never gonna be able to blame your equipment again...)

Post

If I could do it again I'd buy the 0404 and get the $99 Emulator X upgrade.. Nice deal for $200US

Post

if i was going for a budget card i would have stretched to the 1212m as not only does it have better convertors but also adat i/o, balanced inputs and outputs, 192khz, and firewire. also you can later upgrade it to a 1820m, i don't think you can do that with the 0404 as it dosen't have the connection on the back of the card to connect the audiodock.

but i got a 1820m anyway and i'm happy :D

It’s biggest limit is the locked ASIO at 48k = not cool – otherwise it’s pretty reliable.

:O)

Even worse than the 48khz lock for me was the awful line-in rec quality. Maybe the expensive audigy2 w/ breakout box is better for this, but at the price they are asking why not get a good card?

Post

Well, it was worse than 48kHz, it was 48kHz asynchronously. It didn't even try to make up for the sampling errors. :bang:

I used to use an SBlive for music. Never, ever, again.

Wow, I'd never heard of those EMU cards. What are the onboard DSP effects like? How versatille are they - how easy is it to actually use them in a VST environment?
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.

I think the answer is: they're good, but a bit of a pain to use (although there are rumours they're gonna do a software release to fix that). But frankly, the cards are worth it for the converters alone.

thx for the comments.. i think i'll choose the best one :)
