you sound like the ideal Propellerhead customer... paying a fee for features that should have been included in Reason 5 years ago!!!

And it matters to you because I am spending your money correct?
NO!!! just pointing out a fact... you sound like the ideal Propellerhead customer... period!!! paying a fee for features that should have been included in Reason 5 years ago!!!

I demo'd Reason 7 recently, which was the first time I'd done that since Reason 3 or so... I blew my mind that they still had those crappy turn-of-the-century style knobs that were practically microscopic on my 1920x1080 monitor. Thankfully I hadn't bought that 4k monitor I've been looking at yet

And why are you pointing out this so called fact? I am aware that its my money but it bothers you how I spend it somehow. For all you know I could be updating from version 3 after using other daws I hate. But nooo typical ad hominem hater dribble. Have the last word tho, you tears taste sweet :)
KFish needs to answer a simple question. What is an outdated sound?

Riiight. You couldn't drag to reorder insert effects in Logic until last year and as of Logic 9 (I don't have X handy) you couldn't drag patches from the browser to the sequencer or drag audio clips into Ultrabeat as Props are demonstrating here. Should Logic users be busy angrily demanding this basic human right? ;) Of course, Live has arguably had the best drag and drop support for years, so what were their big features in their latest release? Oh, a new browser (sounds familiar) and automation in "draggable" clips and support for a hardware controller I've never seen anyone perform with. :tu: Have you looked for groundbreaking new features in the Reaper changelog recently?

Ha, I'm really not trying to slag any of these fine programs, all of which I own and respect for their strengths. Just to point out that at this stage in the DAW market, a lot of things that will make the biggest difference to our actual music making (not our fantasies of whiz bang features) are on the subtler side and judging by the pace they're coming at, seem to take more work than meets the eye...

People keep bringing up live and saying the only thing with live 9 was a new browser. Personally that was my most hated 'feature' but there was so much more:
The Glue
Audio to Midi
Faster rendering, with higher quality output from a new sample rate conversion lib
new m4l features including new drum synths
Updated versions of existing effects - compressor, gate, eq eight
Dual monitor support
and of course push support, clip automation recording etc etc (btw I love using my push, and I really have yet to see one person on here or abes forums that doesnt)

So to try to compare reason 8's lackluster update of 'browser+gui changes' to live 9 is pretty ridiculous since you did in fact get new effects and instruments and updated versions of old ones. Again the thing people have been saying in this thread that they should do to begin with

Oh and they give you new effects and synths without putting an artificial time limit on when you do your update

Now who knows, maybe props led with browser+gui and there's much more coming, but I seriously doubt they wouldn't have mentioned something about effect/instrument upgrades or new inclusions in a large anouncement

Yep, I own Live 9, I'm familiar with all of this, although more than a few of those fall into the category of "things other DAWs have had for years". But it doesn't matter! There's basically no replacing the Session view or the Rack, so these are all apples and oranges comparisons. I'm happy that Ableton and Props are more subtly refining their unique visions than trying to cram the flashiest sounding features in.

I'd absolutely agree that Live 9 was a bigger update than any Reason update in memory - the only difference is that Reason gives you the option of updating every year or every few years. There's no penalty in price if you wait a few versions and there's no penalty in stability if you jump on every upgrade (plus you get access to additional .1 updates and bonus effects like Pulsar and Synchronous) - personally, I wish Apple and Ableton gave you the option. Somewhere in the neighborhood of $7 a month isn't bad for something you enjoy regularly.

I own a bunch of DAWs out of curiosity, but I get the biggest kick out of playing with Reason. I wish I grokked to Logic or Live - I paid good money for them and have dug in enough to see some powerful features - but Reason gives me instant gratification and I just "get" it more than those, so I'll probably have fun with Reason 8 even though I was dragging samples into Impulse 8 years ago. *epic shrug*

You can register one system to be completely dongle free. You can use a password on other systems if you have the internet or a dongle. So I essentially haven't used the dongle since Reason 7.

Definitely won't be upgrading. After all the love I was trying to feel for Reason, I fired up the Reason 7.1 demo and they still haven't added a "cursor return to start position on stop" option when hitting the spacebar like every single other DAW has. It's a mandatory option. I wanted to put my fist through the computer after using it for 5 minutes of reaching over for the keypad to hit the 0 key in go back to the beginning of the bar every single time. I could use the mouse every single time also but it's an extra step that's completely annoying. It's the most retarded thing I've ever seen in a DAW. I don't know how the hell anybody uses it like this. This renders the sequencer completely useless for me. I just saved 129.00! Thank you Propellerheads!

Have you tried "Shift-Return". Once to stop, twice to go back to the beginning.

Just click the stop button twice to return to zero and that can mapped to a controller so you can get a midi controller that's attached to your pinkie and that way you barely have to move. The laughable whinging over an announcement and mostly from douche bags that don't even use Reason. Personally $129 isn't much money and most companies charge for upgrades, That's how they are able to operate or they just end up bloating the software with demos I.e Flstudio.

Hey thanks for the advice jerkoff! It's obvious that you're a pro because you like do unnecessary work. I'll consider trying to impress you by doing the same one day, but for now I really don't feel like doing that. Do you even know what you're talking about? The way your post was all over the place reminds of this co worker that was a long time drunk that used to send me texts. You need to lay off the booze my good man.
