Anyone know a good mp3-player that can make live recordings at 16 bit, 44 kHz, and has a mic input?

Budget? There's a few good ones in the $500-1000 range.

I could afford that, but I'd rather spend less if possible...

I think the Creative Labs Nomad does it foe $200? Otherwise we gor 2-3 that are 'pro' grade. Google for "compact flash field recorder."

The lower cost mp3 players generally don't have a good quality built-in mic or an external mic input.

Maybe you should look into a recordable Minidisc with an external mic?

Thanks Devon. These recorders look like they're the works, but it's not really what I'm after. I'd like to buy a compact mp3-player that can be used as a recorder as well.

You're right - but I don't want a MiniDisc (or DAT).

Does anyone know the Archos Gmini 220?
It offers a line input and records mp3s at 128 kbps.

Why not get two seperate devices then instead? You can get MP3 players for under a $100 these days, then pick up a quality recorder as well.
