Manx v2 updates coming...

I see Manx are 'in the process of' updating all their synths to version 2. No info on pricing, but I seem to recall the previous versions having a massive price drop a while back.
The Gigmate (Moog/Tandy/RadioShack ConcertMate clone) is already at v2.0 - and is still free.
Don't know about authenticity, but they have quite a 'big' sound that has a certain charm.

Thanks Syntilla, I'm glad you like the Gigmate.
We're just in the process of producing an audio demo for the Gigmate, before officially announcing it's release (via KVR news), next week.
As Syntilla mentioned, a version is actually available for free download right now - (it may possibly be tweaked a bit before the official release.)
We will have commercial releases to follow in the coming weeks.
Have fun with the Gigmate, everybody!

oops - sorry to steal your thunder! (I don't think anyone noticed...)
Been playing around with the Destiny demo.
The filter is clearly much more 'illegal Moog' than the Whiteface I'm used to, so I'm not going to guess at how close it is to the 'real thing'. But it has a lot of character, and complements the excellent freeware Odys - ODsay and Oddy-Free - really well.
If this is going to be at the kind of pocket-money price you're hinting at, I think a lot of people are going to find it pretty irresistible.
The Gigmate is certainly going to win you a few friends - has much of the 'oomph' and 'twang', and even the subtle instability, of the Destiny - when the Newsletter announces it to the few hundred thousand members who might have missed this thread ...

I remember demoing some of those synths, their operation sucked, that much I remember.

I really liked the Bit One emulation. The GUI was horrid, though. Total putoff, don't care if that's how the original unit worked - the original interface was created under restrictions that no longer apply - get rid of it!

Yeah, the polys really don't say 'tweak me', let alone 'build your own patches.'
The Ody looks like an Ody, the Mini a Mini - that you don't mess with.
But appeals to 'authenticity' don't cut much sway with me these days.
I think Martin Luders was right in giving his JX8P clone the look of the optional controller rather than the instrument's own front panel (to my ears, the latest beta actually sounds better than I remember the hardware ever did - is it my hearing, or my memory, that should most concern me?), and Xavier Kalensky's exquisite, deceptively simple Kx-PolyM-CSE bears not even a passing resemblance to the 70M it was (partially) modelled on (nor anything else Yamaha ever made, to my knowledge).
And Damian's spending all hours working on the sound ...

Downloaded Gigmate v2 now, pretty decent
Somehow the GUI reminds me of a Reason Rack Extension, but good job it aint, because I'm sure Props would have sold it for $50

One thing I noticed is that you get quite a lot of very low, almost DC output from the Concertmate synth. For example, try the preset Nice Bass. Hold down a note and after it dies out, you get a flatline that's moving up and down. So for me, a highpass filter after it is mandatory, and should probably have a DC-blocker built in, or (preferably) be tweaked so these low freqs aren't generated at all. Sure, you can't *hear* it, but it's taking up headroom and eating precious speaker energy.
Apart from that it's a neat synth.
EDIT: the rumble is coming from the ringmod output only.

Nice spot!Sendy wrote:One thing I noticed is that you get quite a lot of very low, almost DC output from the Concertmate synth.

It seems to be at the beat frequency of the 2 oscillators - somewhere around -15 dB on the patch you mention. There's a little HF sound in there, too.
That patch uses only the filter to attenuate the volume - it goes away with the amp controlled by the envelope.
Now I'm wondering what other synths do the same thing - and how much of a difference a DC killer might make.
None of the really dumb people I knew when I was young are young any more.

Probably not, 64-bit SE is not out, yet.electro wrote:way back I'd seen an impressive bit One A/B video, but it was 32bit only. Does V2 bring x64 Native compatibility?
And unless they overhaul the user interface, I won't spend a cent on it...

Happy as Larry about Manx updating to V2. I own the Super-Jay and the Destiny - stunning plugins!
Damian Cleary is also a very helpful person, may I add.
As much as I know that there are no new releases planned by Manx, I still hope that someday they would.
