I just realized what was happening. I was hitting "quote" instead of "edit" .... my second cup of coffee made me notice that :LOL:z.prime wrote:Spammer!!artao wrote:DELETED --- weird, I'm trying to correct a typo in a post above, but it keeps creating a new post instead.

Hey all, hate to be a pain ... but bear with me as a newbie ...
I have majorly changed and up dated my entry (hope this is OK BJ?). I have added in some basic extra soloing each side of the main solo. This now brightens up the images, and helps lift the very dense soundscape I have created here. This is of course, in addition to the basic melody lines which I play pretty much throughout.
If those who have listened before think this is a poorer version, then please let me know - always looking for help in order to move my tunes up the leaders boards (hah hah!).
For the sake of completeness, here's the entry:
Oh yes, 2 more ODsay's and 3 more twin delays.

Yes, within the rules to change your entry as much as you want until the deadline, just make sure announced and shared with the group (I'm sure you already have that covered).doctorbob wrote:I have majorly changed and up dated my entry (hope this is OK BJ?)

Thanks Z for the quick reply. Had a bit of a weird thing .. one of the knobs on my Oxygen8 may have developed a dry joint on the pcb, and so dodges around on its own withing a certain range. I had this linked to the VCF Resonance, so just letting it do its own "thang" has introduced some interesting changes whilst I was playing and working the VCF Frequency! Gonna leave it and not remap it as I quite like what happened!
Cheers,
Rob

OK, now maybe I have a starting point to work from.artao wrote:Don't give up, check out this patch and fiddle with it. I think it sounds pretty decent.rockstar_not wrote:I was going to participate this month. I spent about an hour trying to figure out how to make a kick to no avail, and I gave up.

I early decided to leave drums out this time. But I have something added later. Thanks for your decription. It was a kind of improvement. Made my drums more stable.ImNotDedYet wrote:1 osc, pulse wave, fairly quick, no attack, bit of decay, just long enough to avoid getting any additional artifacts, no sustain, bit of release and add some noise to taste. ...I was going to participate this month. Ok, from newbie to newbiedoctorbob wrote:Hey all, hate to be a pain ... but bear with me as a newbie ...
I liked the previous track more.
Generally you could give the track some more dynamic. From start to the end it is almost same loudness. Let the overlaying voices change in volume. Bring them to front or move it back.
This would improve the mix in my opinion.
Hope this helps, but remember I am a newbie.

Thanks for this ... I know I need to sort out the denseness of the soundscape ... most of the time there are 14 ODsays doing the backing sound, then there's 3 solo tracks to come in and out and also 3 more harmony tracks which are in for about 3 out of the 4 sections. I have started to play with those dynamics (as you rightly point out). I still want to retain that sort of "Phil Spectre Wall of Sound" feel, so I don't want to thin it out too much. Even some subtle EQ-ing and panning might do it.MTLE wrote: Ok, from newbie to newbie

I find that if I A/B the track with and without the new solos (i.e. mute/unmute them!), then the new brightness does drop away - but, yes, the new solo voices add to the denseness of the sound.
I'll give it a whirl - and thanks for the comment - this is what OSC is about - getting different ears to listen and advise, newbies or not eh?

So... any chance for a reply to my question on the previous page?
Music can no longer soothe the worried thoughts of monarchs; it can only tell you when it's time to buy margarine or copulate. -xoxos

Yep, it's definitely got a mind of it's own.ccDuckett wrote:So... any chance for a reply to my question on the previous page?
Maybe automate it at the start to ensure it's on/off

I agree. Lots of strange things can happen. I find that I get the odd stuck note. And, strangely, for certain patches, if there's some time in the track before a note comes (via midi), I get a strange thumping/popping sound from that instance of ODsay. This can happen if it's waiting for a note via the midipolyphony as well. So, you either avoid that patch, or in my case, I have had to automate out noise via volume envelopes. It does seem to be related to the way the LFO interacts with the various "devices" and routing in the synth.H-man wrote: Yep, it's definitely got a mind of it's own.![]()
But, as you say, this is OSC. We learn, we pragmatically fix things, and get our tracks out in due time.
Cheers, and now back to fixing my dynamics (phew, this is harder than I thought it would be with so many interacting tracks- can be sort of like taking way the small tuning differences you get in a violin section which give it that lovely full soaring sound!)

Freeverb is awesome, but at the same time very different compared to Vintageverb. It's not even possible to say one is better than the other imho. Vintageverb can do such a beautifull Lexicon224 kind of lush reverb and the new algorithms that recently has been added (in beta) are nothing short of amazing. Smooth Plate and Smooth Room are the bomb, and so is the new Nonlin algorithmz.prime wrote:+1! I recently bought it for a track I'm working on at the recommendation of someone I respect greatly for plugin quality. And, although free verb I think gives it a run for the sound, the ease of use and massive variations are just awesome. And its fun to use. Easily worth the $50! Go buy it now!Vintage Verb is saweeeeeeet!
(edit: wow, my phone makes using this forum terrible)
My favorite reverb combo at the moment is Valhalla Vintage Verb for the classic reverb sound and Acon Digital Verberate for the modern reverb sound. With these two reverb plugins, I feel like I can cover all reverb duties.
Music... life would be boring without it.

I agree too. Was not sure the "Sync" switch does alway work right. I also had ghost notes playing. They happen randomly. Most of the critical sections are muted or set volume to -inf now. It happened in rendering too. So needed to do some more runs.doctorbob wrote:I agree. Lots of strange things can happen....H-man wrote: Yep, it's definitely got a mind of it's own.![]()

To your dynamics: With that "Wall of Sound" in mind your track is almost ok, just make shure the lead stands out recognizable from the background.
