Ive just now dloaded the demo and running the tutorial.No PDF with it though,or anything that could be printed and read.

The tutorial has links that set up the demonstration one part at a time,as you read on and choose the next link.

Nice...but rather have the printable info too!

i probably should have spent more time with it but, i wasn't really that impressed. nothing that can't already be done in an audio editor with a good time/pitch shift algorithm. melodyne is quite old now really so maybe other software has caught up. plus the quality was unbearable as soon as you moved an audio note (or whatever it is called) more than a semitone...maybe there is a quality setting i missed somewhere.

nevermind, it's uninstalled now anyway

I don't know any other application that can do some of the things this one can:

1) Changing pitch and timing by crabbing a note within an audio file, and move it up and down as simply as it can
2) Take a melody from one part and place it on another
3) Adjust things like vibrato and small incrementa pitch adjustments

To name a few. I felt it was a waste of time until I really gave it a go.

I'd suggest you might want to really try it out, give it the time and attention you would give any tool. You'll see that there is more to this thing than you know...

This version has just been released by the way.Many improvements and new items.
I do see that changing pitch does sound much like,if not the same algos used in the "vocaloid".
It does sound synthetic,(listening to the upper pitched vocal harmony),but considering all things,can still mix in undetected.Especially if the sound pitched is not human.(such as a bass/synth and so on.)

tbh i wasn't that interested. just curious really, wanted to know what the fuss was about. i just don't think it's as revolutionary as its made out to be. unless you work with vocals, and real world instruments (which i rarely do making idm music), it's not much use. also it's more fun getting strange effects through coventinal time/pitch shifting tools for me.

i suppose it just woulden't be much use doing what i do.

I`m running the demo in my internet deticated pc w/no asio just to get a feel for what it can do.
Damn,hate reading instructions from the crt only.Wish it had printable as well!

At least for working with vocals, I find this program to be nothing short of amazing... the ability to warp, stretch, shift, and transpose vocals in such an organic way is unparalleled. The closest competitor would be Autotune, but they are very different programs, with very different focuses.

Melodyne is easily capable of drastic pitch shifting while retaining an extremely natural sound... and I've used a lot of crappy pitch shifters in my day! If you are not getting the results you want, it may be due to incorrectly analyzing the original sound- be sure to analyze using the correct settings. Also, you probably need to adjust the formant transposition independent of the pitch transposition to achieve the best results.

Of course it can be used for all sorts of things besides vocal tweaking, but I have yet to dive into any of that. Speaking of vocals, its a great way to turn a speech synth into a singing synth (at least until Cantor comes out

)

heheh...Running the demo,I see that it`s the interactive version of the vid demonstration.(although you can still do your own audio imports and screw it up)

Yeah,generating harmonys to a lead vocal and such can be a breeze...assuming this and that are true...like the lead vocal is a definable/selectable scale.If not,then there`s much more work in-store!

Tomorrow I want to test it out using sounds other then vocal to see how flexable and useful it is.

The interactive demo tutorial is very specialized,in that it demonstrates the ease of working with mainstream material.
That specialization can be cost effective in certain conventional styles of music...but will it be effective with so called "less structured music"as a valuable tool?

certainly not ground breaking, theres a similar app for linux that came out quite a few years ago, cant remember what the hell its called but it had its roots in the InSpect/ProSpect project. It had a similar interface and way of manipulating audio as Celemony. Though the pitch/stretching algorithms werent of the same quality

I think the linux version of ProSpect at the above link contains the app im talking about though youll have to look through the folders once youve compiled it. Theres a Windows binary of ProSpect but not the referred to app the name of which Ive forgotten, got that

...indeed, I'm not really impressed by DAWs and harddisk recording, too: Nothing that couldn't be done with a multitrack tape and a good pair of scissors!

Maybe not summed, but multiplied
