If it were not for Kraznet videos, I would have given up on Samplitude much sooner. VSTs with multichannel output is a good example. I might need to setup a project once every 6 months where I need to do this. After spending 20 minutes fighting with the Samplitude GUI and failing to figure out multichannel VST output, I watch the Kraznet video and then I understand how to do it. 6 months later, I forget how to do it and have to watch the Kraznet video again. :dog:

Another struggle in Samplitude is sending MIDI from one VST into another. Very hard to remember because of the unintuitive GUI. Both of these are easy in Studio One.

I am sure it's not a problem if you use Samplitude every day but if you are a casual, infrequent user the learning curve is much harder.

I hear you frantz, I just have a hunch that I'm really going to like this program. Yes s1 is dead easy, like anything, easy when you know it.

Then go for it. Samplitude is certainly feature rich and very capable.

MIDI objects will freeze in place if the audio output is on the same track.

If you're using a multi-out VSTi such as Omnisphere, Superior Drummer, etc., then you just freeze the audio output tracks and leave the MIDI alone.

There are about 3 different ways to do freeze.

You can also freeze objects :).

It's also possible to freeze an aux-return track out 'in the open'.

The whole object-based freeze function is one of the main features in Samplitude that I use a lot.
It's a fast way to spit out stems for other purposes such as sending tracks to other studios using other DAWs.

For routing MIDI, I use the mixer - setting input at the top, and setting output channel at the bottom of the mixer channel. Easier to visualize this way IMO.

thanks for that. I managed to get it working using the vsti manager.

aux sends from objects, now that is very good

Ok I'm through the worst of the learning curve, it takes just a little longer than other daws but my good this program is bloody good I'm getting the cross grade. My tip, once you key map your own short cuts, things go a lot smoother

So, DID you wrote an e-mail to the Magix guys about implementing VST3? I'm curious what they had to say about it.. cheers!
It will happen but probably not until the Pro X2 release later next year. Although that's just my estimate.
10 months later

Giving up hope

Post

Magix has slowed down the upgrade path considerably Andy, they just released a patch for pro x and sequoia the end of July. I wouldn't be surprised if it were another 10 months. I dont have any VST3 pluggins and use mostly Samp's fx (lately if I dont use samp fx I am using hardware) but I can imagine how frustrating the wait must be for those who do need it. Sorry I cant offer more hope than that :(
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

What actually happened is MAGIX are staggering releases of Sequoia 13 and Samplitude 13 (ProX2) with separate beta cycles for each product. Sequoia 13 will be released fairly soon. Samplitude Pro X2 to is unlikely to be released until the end of this year or early next year as far as I know. Although I get scant information from MAGIX. So don't take my word for that.
