Hopefully I'll call this mine soon!
I was allways impressed majorly with Melodyne, but it seems to have gotten even better!

There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

i don't think that says anything at all. if you base your hardware and software purchases on what 'pro' users think and not what actually matters...weather it works for you...then i think that says quite a lot about you.If Peter Gabriel is an endorser/user, that´s says a lot
all i was stating was that it dosen't work for me, geese.
thats taking it a bit far don't you think. just because i don't like some software, i get labled as someone who is afraid of new technologies....indeed, I'm not really impressed by DAWs and harddisk recording, too: Nothing that couldn't be done with a multitrack tape and a good pair of scissors!
i can see how melodyne is useful to some, but not to me.

Actually no. If at all, then you get labeled as someone who doesn't see that advances in how you can do something can be as much revolutionary as advances in what you can do.ambe wrote:thats taking it a bit far don't you think. just because i don't like some software, i get labled as someone who is afraid of new technologies.dr.wackler wrote:...indeed, I'm not really impressed by DAWs and harddisk recording, too: Nothing that couldn't be done with a multitrack tape and a good pair of scissors!
(Aside from the fact, that no other timestrech/pitchshift algorithm can treat phrasing independently like Melodyne does, and that Melodyne's timestretching is not a simple granular or fft algorithm like with all other software, and that it sounds far superior [just listen to the 1000% stretched trumpet], and, and, and....)

i do understand dr.wackler but it is of no benefit to me.

If that had been all you've been stating, then nobody would have argued, but infact you said that it could do "nothing that can't already be done in an audio editor with a good time/pitch shift algorithm". This simply is not true, that's why I (we) argue.ambe wrote:all i was stating was that it dosen't work for me, geese.
If you're not interested in discussing the product, then why post at all? Never mind.

For what it's worth, here's my opninion.
I've owned melodyne since version 1.5, doing almost all my recording in it, and then mixing it in Logic or Tracktion (melodyne does not have track automation)
As far as I'm concerned I think melodyne outperforms ANY host or plugin in the timestretch/pitchshift department. Of course if you only do midi, this will be something of little concerne to you, but if you work with real instruments and a lot of samples, like I do, melodyne is a blessing.
cheers.

ok, i'm sorry for that. melodyne can do more than that. however, as warp x said, if you are majority dealing with midi it isn't that much use. maybe this is why i fail to see why it is so good.

Well for those of you who do use real instruments/vocals in your tunes, there's something new coming soon..
Think top quality resythesis, pitch shifting, stretch, formant shift + MUCH more in a VSTI.
Think of 'playing' audio file phrases on your keyboard, editing them in your sequencer just like they were midi..
Just watch this space

Well, Ambe in a way is right. Ofcourse Melodyne is easy to tweak and the algo's are superb. But you can do similar things with Samplitude, actually originally made for that. Although not as simple in use as in Melodyne.

I just watched the introduction video...and what can I say...all we need is a natural sounding version of Vocaloid and real mucisians will have to struggle...imgine only being called in to play "one" single note and then you leave...Ah well, I guess that the good ol´ days of long hours in a studio is forever forgotten.
