Hmm, just looking at the kits.. kick1.wav (easyrider) is -19db peak, and kick8.wav is 0.0db peak. That seems like plenty of dynamic difference to me. But I might be missing something since I still have to map the damn things to nn-xt before I can play them.

That's what I've been trying to say! There's plenty of dynamic range, and it makes me think someone is doing something wrong...

yeah, maybe the mapping for exs somehow got messed.. cause just listening to the quietest to the loudest kick sample in a wav editor there is a big difference in volume.

About the 20ms delay on kicks, haven't got to that yet, but it would be easy to chop off if its a problem.

Well, the EXS mappings are the original ones, untampered with. Everything else are conversions of different types.

I'm at my wits end if people are having trouble with it. :?:

About the offset again, it's there for a reason. Many would argue that it's unnecessary. I will argue back, as it's not really an offset in the first place. It's an important part of the sample (albeit very quiet one)!

I suppose I tried my best hushing away all the GM types and robot grid step programmers (which would be the majority in KVR), but people don't seem to bother reading manuals. I don't blame them, I don't either.

I bet there is a load of people right now going Yey! At last a kit I can actually use and has room to program to fit my style of play – cool I think, heck I wish more turn up like this in the future. :)

Hey Sascha,

Of course you are right - setting the Level Via Velocity slider all the way to the top to absolutely flatten all dynamics is what Lance Armstrong might call "the mistake of an amateur".

There is no reason whatsoever to do it and I assumed it had been done in error by someone who was not familar with programming for the EXS24.

You probably can't even do this if you wanted to in most samplers LOL.

So - my suggestion: Just use the EXS24 mappings that Kingston has supplied as a starting point for your own work. To each his own and all that ...

Perhaps we can share some kits. I'm working on some for my own use but we may be able to share them.

I don’t know how the re-distribution of modified kits is supposed to work – maybe Mike Kingston can verify this aspect (due to the BombSquad sponsor and what have you)

But.

I certainly would entertain modified kits at my site – plus any mappings to keep it all together and in context – plus any descriptions about what styles the mappings are intended for, any special problems you may have had to overcome creating them, what your favoured samples were – this kind of stuff would all be cool too.

I can create an ftp for uploading, or http via the download section (that aspect is compatible with java enabled browsers – good for small files) or via email for smaller files too.

But must just get a clarification on that from Kingston himself – I certainly got the time and space to manage it - if it were ok.

To Kingston -- and mirrors -- a hearty THANK YOU.

Just downloaded the sounds and I'm betting they're just what's needed for a few projects. This evening I'll give them a try. How opportune that you've released these sounds just as I'm getting familiar with the DR-008! :-)

I Have done some rough GM mappings of the 4 versions (2 snares X 2 kicks)of the Easyrider kit for EXS24.

I have added the NSK V7 Toms and set up the hits to follow the basic GM layout and moved the extra Hats and cymbals above the lowest octave and a half. I also trimmed up to the attacks on a the Kick samples.

PM me if you want to host them.
I might try to tweak them a bit more before I foist them on the wider public.

I would like to add my vote of thanks to Michael Kingston for these samples - I just spent some time comparing them to a bunch of other EXS24 kits built from public domain multi-sample sets and some other sets I have bought (eg Wizoo). MK's Easyrider kit rates quite well against the others kits and works pretty well now that I have it set up for my tunes.

Thanks also to those hosting the kit.

I have written to Natural Studio – if I can get permission to distribute parts of the NS_Kit in any form (they are very sure of their copyrights) – I will send you a PM about hosting. Of course GM maps without samples is ok if the user downloads the original samples from NS – the altered & trimmed files I need to clarify this with Mike before I undertake the hosting – I have to be very sure of my position with regard to copyright issues. I get clearance in writing – I am very happy to host.

I was definitely thinking only of the EXS24 instrument definitions. One problem that I might have overlooked is that - as I understand it - the sample names in the NSK set have changed again since I downloaded the wav set. This means that my sets will not work with the current NSK V7 wav file names. Bummer :-(

All files like instrument definitions would be ok for sure plus any info you would like to pop with it.

Maybe if I get permission from NS we can just include the part of the kit that’s affected, until then if you can tell me which kit version it was I might be able to find that kit at the ns site and provide a link to it. :wink:
