This appears to me, to be a slack-handed, zero-budget, last-second rush job.
Coming from what I assume to be an industry leader. Presented by someone
who looks like he just fell out of bed, and rushed to work in a t-shirt.
I'd have preferred George Clooney, in a tuxedo, with a cigar 8)
I'm sure he could master that skillz-free C scale feature

The main feature that sets kontrol -s apart as a midi device, the blinking lights,
will probably be the first part to physically fail, and the most problematic
for third-parties to support. Even NI's own individual instruments,
and the loyal customers who enjoy them, are locked out
A mandatory number of keyswitches also severely limit the playing range
on the 25/49/61 keybeds. Hopefully, 7 of the 8 switches can be turned off?

Why not just sell the kontrol -s software separately, for $50 or so,
to existing in-komplete instrument customers?

(To be fair, a voucher is included with the product, and I don't know
how generous it is.)
Cheers

There is some irony, in that many people bemoan the lack of
an aftertouch enabled midi controller, with a really good keybed.
Perhaps NI should expand their deal with Fatar, and create a model
without all the shiny things, just a great action, and some standard
knobs and sliders, that anyone would like. Maybe include a voucher
for a single instrument, or Kontact library.

It would even be easy enough, to have an external set of kontrols,
that could be placed left, center-left, center-right, or right, with
a choice between knobs and sliders, or even a mix of both.
They're going for rocket science, when basic math would sell
like kold beer in July.
Cheers

Same here. I got to see many of the features. Yeah, so the guy wasn't the best keyboardist I've ever heard. I don't care - he won't be the guy playing it if I buy one. He clearly explained many of the features, which is something that I do care about. As for the scale indicator LEDs, I'm a formally trained keyboardist with a music theory degree, so I won't be using that feature. My 7-yo son is taking piano lessons and might find it useful. When I was a kid taking piano lessons, I had little colored stickers with note names on them to assist me, so the LEDs aren't that different. I could turn it on for him, turn it off for me. Where's the problem?

Here's a demo which (to me) is the opposite of painful...

Those lights are my favorite part of the keyboard! :hihi:

I don't see what was so painful. It was just a walk through of the functions, just like any other product walk through. Things were described well enough, who cares.

To me it's not a flashy video but not necessarily a rush-job either, quite informative. And the guy looks fine to me, I wear bit that kind of clothes myself actually! I guess we have different tastes in clothing and style then ;)
circuit modeling and 0-dfb filters are cool

I dress like that going to the drive-thru on my day off,
or getting TP at the grocers at closing time.
Showcasing the companies new flagship hardware,
I think I'd dress with more than just the legal necessities.
But maybe he was just following market-driven orders :hihi:

Judging by the three day growth, loitering for a few days after he shot a similar demo with them

Bob @ NI: "Maschine has pads that light up in pretty colors, and we're adding scale presets in the next version. Why don't we make a keyboard like that?"

Ann @ NI: "Because that would be stupid?"

George @ NI: "Scale freaking presets? Really? Scale presets?"

Bob @ NI: "You're both fired."
