Anyone here use wooden guitar / bass picks? Which woods have you settled on, tried, liked? Any that have a little flex to them?

I did try one a long time ago, don't recall the thickness, definitely didn't bend. I haven't looked into them since. Now I love Dunlop 3 & 5 mm picks, I can't use anything thinner.

I tried all kinds of pickups over time, but don't remember being impressed with wooden ones.

So far ive experimented with hickory and ebony, prefer the latter, planning on trying cherry wood. Dunlop 2mm in pic for reference.

There was a time when I experimented with various materials of pick, but now I've settled on the Jim Dunlop 1mm nylon picks for everything.

I even copied Brian May for a while and used a sixpence, which works really well on electric but I didn't like on an acoustic.

Wood seemed to not have a good attack, but I would imagine it might have a nice mellow sound on nylon strings.

that's what inspired me to make my brass picks, though I dont use them often anymore I still have some from like 1983. These days I use Fender style picks (medium) from intune with my name on them

With wood it would really matter what kind of wood you use, IMHO you want some that will wear down without splintering so you would need a very hard wood which still may wear down too quickly.

I remember you brought that up before John, and I think we had a conversation about metal picks. Oddly enough, I bought a stainless steel pick that I hated as it sounded awful, but I still used the sixpence which gave me a much more appealing sound.

Once in a while I'll still pick up a dime to use in place of a pick.
